Changes to the Seasonal Work Visa Program in Norway

The Government of Norway has announced new updates to the seasonal work visa program via which thousands of foreign workers migrate to Norway for work purposes. The changes introduced are to be applicable on future work visa applicants.

Following the new update, the eligibility criteria, application requirements and types of jobs will undergo a change from 2025. The new program is to be applicable for select category of workers who must have a job offer and spend a minimum of six months outside Norway to be eligible.

For whom are the new work visa rules applicable?

The new changes will be applicable only to certain categories of seasonal workers, including the ones having seasonal demand in jobs like tree planting, harvesting crops, logging operations, and foreign workers in the tourism and construction sectors.

Once the candidate meets the eligibility criteria, they must meet other requirements which include having a job offer registered by a Norwegian company and providing residential proof in Norway. They must also demonstrate having sufficient proof of funds and have enough health insurance to be eligible for the visa.

Norway Seasonal Work Visa Application Rules

Candidates have to submit their work visa application via a local embassy or the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (DUI) and follow it up with a biometrics appointment. ?Authorities advise the candidates to plan their application as early as possible to avoid processing delays.

The country is planning to issue around 6000 residence permits for foreign workers. A considerable amount of seasonal work visas are also to be issued by the Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion. ?
