January is never the busiest of months, but there's still some important updates to share from Northumbria Healthcare.
Creating visible NHS career pathways
We have joined forces with Northumberland College (part of Education Partnership North East ) to make sure technical and academic routes into NHS career pathways are more visible and accessible.
The college is due to open a multimillion-pound campus at Wansbeck Business Park in Ashington in 2026. A new School of Health will open in September 2026 and take this partnership to the next level.
First occupational therapy apprentice graduates
Beth Green has become the first occupational therapist to graduate as an apprentice at Northumbria Healthcare.
She was working as an occupational therapy technical instructor at Blyth Community Hospital and wanted to progress into the role of an occupational therapist. Beth took it upon herself to reach out to universities around the country to understand how the programme worked and how this could be set up within the trust.
Following her 2-year course, Beth has become the first graduate from our apprenticeship programme in partnership with 英国桑德兰大学 .
National recognition for net zero commitment
Our sustainability team won Team of the Year at the Sustainability Partnerships Awards for its work to launch and implement the Net Zero Northumbria action plan.
Net Zero Northumbria is a two-year action plan that was launched in early 2024 to improve our environmental impact and achieve a net zero status by 2040.
