Northumberland County Approves Continuation of Stop Hopper Service

The Northumberland County Commissioners have approved the local funding match necessary for rabbittransit to access federal and state funds, ensuring the continuation of the Stop Hopper service in Northumberland County.

Stop Hopper is a flexible public transit service that allows residents to schedule rides on smaller, neighborhood-friendly vehicles. The service operates from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with a fare of $2.00 per ride. Seniors aged 65 and older can ride for free with a registered free fare ID card.

Northumberland County Commissioner, Joseph Klebon, emphasized the importance of the service, "Stop Hopper is crucial for our citizens who need transportation to work and other essential activities, such as grocery shopping and medical appointments. This service significantly impacts their overall quality of life."

Key features of Stop Hopper include on-demand rides within designated zones; accessibility through a smartphone app or by calling 1-800-632-9063; real-time ride tracking and alerts; and ADA-accessible vehicles.

Commissioner Meghan Beck highlighted the service's impact on employment, "The data shows that 35% of users rely on Stop Hopper for work-related travel. By providing reliable transportation to work, we're helping families become self-reliant and contributing to the community's success."

Chairman Sam Schiccatano echoed the work-related travel, but also emphasized the need for reliable transportation for seniors and veterans throughout the region. “This small investment from the county helps our older citizens and veterans get to where they need to be and helps them become independent in meeting their needs.”

Residents can download the Stop Hopper smartphone app from the App Store or Google Play to request rides and track their trips in real-time. #RuralTransitMatters #PublicTransit #Pennsylvania#NorthumberlandCountyPA
