Northern Virginia - 2017 Year End Perspective
Northern Virginia (#NoVA, #datacenteralley and #innovationalley) continues to drive historic demand absorption for the 4th consecutive year with 115MWs in 2017. No other data center market has ever had more annual demand absorption than 59MWs in a single year (#NorthernCalifornia in 2016) or produced more than 133MWs over a three year span (#Chicago 2015 -2017). Northern Virginia over the past three years has contributed nearly 300MWs to the overall US data center demand absorption or nearly 1/3rd of overall US demand. Northern Virginia’s overall market share has consistently grown over the past three years (22% in 2015, 31% in 2016 and 37% in 2017).

New technologies (SaaS, PaaS, Mobility, and AI) are deployed in Northern Virginia at a faster rate than any other global data center market. Plus Northern Virginia continues to see more new investments by data center providers #CloudHQ, LLC, #Compass Datacenters, #Corporate Office Properties Trust (COPT), #Element Critical, #Infomart Data Centers, #Iron Mountain, #QTS Data Centers, #RagingWire Data Centers, #Sabey Data Centers, #Sentinel Data Centers, #Vantage Data Centers and many, many more. Plus new capital investments by Google (#WesternAshburn, #SouthAshburn and #Innovationalley) and Facebook (#RichmondVirginia, #RVA, #Henrico County) given historic demand absorption required by enterprises and consumers adoption of new advance technologies for our new progressive high-tech economy.
All major data centers REITs, #Equinix, #Digital Realty, #Coresite, #CyrusOne, and #QTS Data Centers, have their largest campuses in Northern Virginia, and continue to heavily invest in Northern Virginia. Northern Virginia is also home to the largest Cloud Service Provider with an enormous deployment in excess of 1GW of total power committed through advance developments of powered base buildings. No other global data center market has a similar distributive ecosystem like Northern Virginia (#datacenteralley and #innovationalley).
