Northeast Best Neighborhoods in Columbia, SC

In this article we are going to talk about Lake Carolina, a beautiful, enormous community in the Northeast Columbia area and I’ll be sharing with you why people simply love to live there!

So, let’s dive into it right now!

?

#1. Lake Carolina

Lake Carolina is a community of more than 40 neighborhoods, that’s right, more than 40! Which makes it one of the biggest communities here in Columbia with 1,850 acres. That’s a lot!

This community is located 30 minutes from Downtown Columbia in the Northeast area. Two of the most interesting features of these neighborhoods are the Town Center and the 200-acre lake.

The Town Center is composed of nearly 40 businesses like restaurants, professional offices, retail, and coffee shops. It offers a picturesque small-town feel and the charm of a true community.

?

The 200-acre man-made lake with more than 6 miles of shorefront is the centerpiece of the entire development and residents can enjoy boating, sailing, paddleboarding, water skiing, swimming, and fishing. Speaking about fishing, did you know that back in 1999 the Lake was fully stocked with 200,000 fish? As you can imagine the fish have grown and multiplied. So, you are in for a big catch when fishing!

?

This community has so much to offer that it is almost impossible to describe it all. Not only the town center and lake are enough for anyone who desires to live there but these neighborhoods are connected with parks, schools, swimming pools, and each other by bike paths, sidewalks, and 30 miles of nature trails.

?

Residents of this community have an ample variety of activities throughout the year. There you can participate in a 5k if you want, and attend concerts in their Amish-built gazebo, farmers markets, oyster roasts, picnics, wine, and food festivals. You name it, they have it all!? This awesome neighborhood has an activity called the Polar Bear Plunge, which started back in 2012 as a joke but today it has become one of the most fun, yearly fundraisers for various charities benefiting children. In January of this year, they raised more than $80,000!!! All I can say is WOW!

?

Another element of this neighborhood I would like to highlight is that it is the home of the Jeep Rogers Family YMCA which is a 50,000-foot facility that offers the following amenities:

  • Cardio and Strength equipment
  • Free weights
  • Over 60 different group exercise classes
  • Indoor track
  • Basketball gym
  • Functional fitness court
  • Yoga/Pilates room
  • 8 Lane swimming pool
  • 4 lighted tennis courts
  • Family and regular locker rooms
  • Sauna and steam rooms
  • Deep See Discover for children ages 6-9 and Child Watch for children ages 2-5.

?

Not only do they have a YMCA, but they also have the Lake Carolina Early Learning Center within the development where you can take advantage of the childcare or simply enroll your infant or preschooler in their education programs.

The schools inside this community belong to the Richland 2 District and they are:

Lake Carolina Elementary Lower Campus (For children in pre-school through second grade)

Lake Carolina Elementary Upper Campus (For children in grades three through five)

  1. Kelly Mill Middle School
  2. AND the schools outside the community are:
  3. Blythewood Middle School AND
  4. Blythewood High School
  5. (Use Early Learning Center Pics for this entire slide)

?

Lake Carolina not only has a variety of shops and restaurants inside the community, but it also has a multitude of places to visit and shopping experiences outside its gates.

Over on Hardscrabble and Clemson roads, you will find a few restaurants, and only 5 miles away you can visit The Village at Sandhills where you will enjoy excellent food because of the variety of restaurants, shops, a 16-screen movie theater, department stores, and much more.

Other areas of interest that you can visit while living in this fantastic neighborhood are:

The Sesquicentennial State Park

The Sandhill Farmers Market and The Children’s Garden are located on the campus of the Clemson University/Sandhill Campus.

?

Now let’s talk about housing:

Lake Carolina Neighborhoods enjoy a multitude of options.

From starting homes to grand estates that can accommodate every budget.

Charleston-style, two-story, and large homes with waterfront and docks are a sight for sore eyes.

Houses in this community were listed this year in a price range between $175,000 and 1.35 million and sold in a price range between $190,000 to 1.3 million.

These homes have anywhere from 1,299 sf to 9,411 sf.

HOA dues range from $600 to $1,852 / year and cover, depending on the particular neighborhood you are in and whether or not you have a lakefront home, common area maintenance, front yard maintenance, sidewalk maintenance, street light maintenance, green areas, playgrounds, tennis courts, pool and some offer backyard maintenance.
