North Korean Hackers Steal $100 Million in Cryptocurrency
North Korean hackers have once again struck, this time targeting a US tech company and stealing an estimated $100 million in cryptocurrency. The hackers are believed to have used phishing emails to trick employees at the tech company into clicking on a malicious link. Once the employees clicked on the link, the hackers were able to gain access to the company's computer systems and steal the cryptocurrency.
This is not the first time that North Korean hackers have targeted cryptocurrency companies. In 2022, North Korean hackers were responsible for stealing an estimated $625 million in cryptocurrency from the Ronin Network, a blockchain designed for the online game Axie Infinity.
The North Korean government is believed to be using the proceeds of these hacks to fund its nuclear and missile programs. In a report released earlier this year, the United Nations found that North Korea had stolen more than $5 billion in cryptocurrency in 2021.
The attack on the US tech company is a reminder of the growing threat posed by North Korean hackers. Cryptocurrency companies need to be on high alert and take steps to protect their systems from attack.
