The Longhouse, which officially opened its doors on December 28, 2023, boasts a menu crafted from locally sourced ingredients. As Norse Brewing Longhouse integrates into the Zebulon community, plans for expanding business hours, introducing an array of events, and offering outdoor dining options are already in motion.
"We are excited to become part of Downtown Zebulon, extending our unique blend of culture and flavors to this vibrant community," said Chris Jorgensen, co-founder of Norse Brewing Company. "Our mission is to create a local gathering place that celebrates diversity, where everyone feels at home. Zebulon, with its warm community spirit, felt like a natural fit for our expansion."
The choice of the name "Longhouse" is deeply rooted in Viking history, symbolizing community and warmth. As Jorgensen explains, "A longhouse is what the Vikings lived in. Everyone knows they were master boat builders, but they also were architects. A longhouse has an arched roofline allowing for heat to circulate throughout the building, keeping everyone warm during the cold winters." The mission of Norse Brewing Longhouse is to be a modern Viking community: “We are a Modern Viking Community of All Peoples.? A brotherhood and sisterhood of people who are all different both on the outside and the inside, but when we come together, we are one and the same joining our differences in strength and celebration to each do our small part to make the Great Feast truly great and together drink from the horn of plenty.”?
Norse Brewing Longhouse takes pride in its renowned brewer and partner, Brad, recognized as the father of Craft Brew in the Raleigh area. With a rich history in the craft beer scene, Brad played a pivotal role in starting the first craft brewery in the region several decades ago. As a testament to his expertise, Brad not only created and taught the brewer program at Wake Tech but also consistently crafts some of the finest beers. The brewery's commitment to offering a unique and diverse experience is evident in being both a Brewery and a Winery, producing ciders and seltzers alongside traditional beers. Brad's creative process involves a focus on seasonal ingredients, resulting in a constantly evolving menu. Special requests, like the creation of the Pillage People Pilsner, showcase the brewery's dedication to delivering exceptional and personalized brews. The flagship beers, Phat Thor Stout and Fo{u}r Friends IPA, have captivating stories behind their names, often inspired by lively moments of creativity and, of course, a bit of drinking to get the ideas flowing.
As Norse Brewing Longhouse includes a restaurant component, patrons can indulge in savory, "Southern Scandinavian" fare. Highlights include Frikedeller, Chris' grandma's meatballs, and the Viking Burger, a distinctive blend of elk, bison, boar, and wagu beef topped with glazed onions and Danish blue cheese. Adding to the culinary adventure, there's an elk sausage infused with cheese and jalape?os.
Beyond its commitment to delivering exceptional flavors, Norse Brewing Longhouse actively engages with the local community. The brewery's dedication to sustainability is evident through practices such as local sourcing, recycling initiatives, and active support for community causes. One noteworthy practice is the brewery’s giving spent grain to local farmers who use it for their livestock or in their fields.
As Norse Brewing Longhouse positions itself in the dynamic craft beer landscape, it stands out not only for its outstanding beverages and culinary creations but also for its mission: a celebration of Beer, Food, and Family. With a visionary brewer, a strong commitment to sustainability, and a menu bridging Nordic and Southern influences, Norse Brewing Longhouse anticipates becoming a regional destination in Downtown Zebulon and an integral part of the Zebulon community.
