Normalize Workplace Fitness

Normalize Workplace Fitness

Lately I’ve been mulling over the phrase, “Normalize Workplace Fitness.” It’s an impactful mission statement that truly motivates me to continue my work in workplace fitness and wellness. Workplaces all across the globe provide people with an opportunity to thrive, both personally and professionally. Because one of the most vital ingredients of individual success is physical activity, integrating fitness into the workplace is a natural next step for business leaders and employees alike.?

Need more convincing? Let’s explore why we need to normalize workplace fitness:

  • First?- A sedentary lifestyle is a HUGE driver of metabolic syndrome, which you can learn more about?here.
  • Second?- Our people commit a large portion of their waking hours to our organizations. If we can offer things that help them thrive during their work week, burnout and turnover rates will reduce! Don’t take my word for it- here’s what Ohio University had to say about helping nurses avoid burnout through physical activity (click here ).

?So how do we remove the stigma around exercising in untraditional places??

Well, the answer is simple. Lead by example and just start. Show up an hour early for your shift and bring walking shoes to get a quick 5K in before your first work commitment. Dedicate a portion of your lunch hour to a Virtual Yoga Class instead of going out to eat with the crew.?

Trust me, people will notice your new habits, physique and mood boost and want to know what you’re up to. Although you’ll be leading by example,” you’ll also be leading a healthy lifestyle that will continue to pay you back for decades (as long as you keep doing the work).?
