Every day morning the first thing one will, in general, observe the most foreseen news either a decrease in the COVID cases or whether a new immunization is made or not? also, this has become a habit, isn’t it so? And in reality, we get to see the blazing news reality something like this - Over ‘an unprecedented number’ of COVID-19 cases in 24 hours for the 1st time.
This is the outcome "The normalcy bias", is an intellectual predisposition that leads individuals to disbelieve or minimize threat warnings of such pandemic.
New norms that have included a few tasks (not a burden) in the manner in which we lead normal routine, for example, Wash hands frequently with soap and water or using a sanitizer, Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands, Catch coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues or a kerchief if you don't have one, using your sleeve and keeping 5-6 feet distance between others when you are outside.
We should get used to these new norms instead of comparing the luxury of how it was before COVID and now.
The normalcy bias, or normality bias, is a cognitive bias that leads people to disbelieve or minimize threat warnings. Consequently, individuals underestimate the likelihood of a disaster, when it might affect them, and its potential adverse effects. The normalcy bias causes many people to not adequately prepare for natural disasters, pandemics, and calamities caused by human error. About 70% of people reportedly display normalcy bias during a disaster.
