Normal Weight? vs. Obese/Overweight
Humans living in 'developed' countries are rapidly stratifying into classes:
Social stratification is a particular form of social inequality.
All societies arrange their members in terms of superiority,
inferiority and equality.
Stratification is a process of interaction or differentiation whereby
some people come to rank higher than others.
You can have a normal weight, but if your body fat percentage is high
enough, you may be considered obese — a condition known as normal
weight obesity. Normal weight obesity means you may have the same
serious health risks as does someone who's obese. Obesity is defined
as having an excessive amount of body fat — not as weighing too much.
Determining your waist size is easy. With a tape measure, figure the
distance around the smallest area of your abdomen below your rib cage
and above your belly button.
If you’re male, these guidelines apply:
? Ideal waist measurement: between 31 and 36 inches
? Overweight: between 36 and 40 inches
? Obese: over 40 inches
For women:
? Ideal waist measurement: between 28 and 33 inches
? Overweight: between 33 and 37 inches
? Obese: over 37 inches
The range is still vague, and surely can't apply to everybody. 28
inches would be very fat for a small woman with a tiny frame (5'1" or
157cm). Waist is 61cm (24") and that is the same as for giantess
models who are 180cm/6ft. tall and whose hips are 10cm wider .Maybe
you gain weight to put it on the tummy first and the hips last. -
that may be your body type. Also, I agree that being short-waisted
means your waist cannot be as small as for someone who has more space
between the ribs and the hip bone - very noticeable with clothing,
e.g. if the waist fits, the hips are too wide or vice versa. But it
would be interesting to know how you can establish whether the fat on
your tummy or waistline is subcutaneous or visceral.
If you have been shopping for clothing lately, it is hair-raising to
see the sizes available, on the racks. One line went to XXXL. This
is a sign that very much is wrong with our society.
A formula called body mass index (BMI) is used to determine whether
you're at a healthy weight for your height. But BMI doesn't tell the
whole story because it doesn't measure body fat. So you may have a
normal BMI while your body fat percentage is high enough to increase
health risks.
Unrefined natural salt is important to many biological processes,
however, for every gram of excess sodium chloride that your body has
to neutralize, it uses up 23 grams of cellular water. Hence, eating
too much common processed salt will cause fluid to accumulate in your
tissues, which may contribute to: Unsightly cellulite
For exercise :
I would also try swimming. That activity will be very good for your
joints and is actually quite fun. Check out your local gyms for
classes.
I would try to be active daily - whether you swim, walk, take Pilates
or use the elliptical trainer. Use elastic bands if you find that
weights are too challenging right now. Acupuncture has also been
shown to help with weight loss.
Obesity is likely unhealthy, certainly unsightly to our eyes, however
there are aboriginal and peasant populations who are plump who don't
score on the cancer radar.
The tobacco using Chinese peasant population was certainly not felled
by tobacco use.
Avoid processed food, learn the Science of Epigentics and follow an
evidence based epigenetic designed diet and exercise/life style regime
for your blood and geno type, rule out any personal food
sensitivities or allergies and factor those in, and I think we have a
running chance. I believe we need to be putting our efforts into
forcing the provision of safe healthy foods at a price even the poor
can afford.
If cooking is to be taught, just like many other subjects, it will
have to be taught at home. The government is bought off as well as the
education system, in favor of big everything. What passes for school
lunches these days is mind-numbing, brain-fogging processed
frankenfood.
If someone would launch a chain of restaurants or cafeteria or eatery
named " A Normal Food" where busy people could eat a simple food..
like well prepared porridge, lentil soup, chicken (free run) soup,
good tea or organic coffee, crusty little bans with grass milk
butter... cabbage salad, organic greens. Natural sourdough bread made
from organic flour. I'd come by just for cup of good tea and sandwich
with good butter. It would be be a great lunchtime!
I am actually shocked seeing what students eat all the day long in
any local university every day. I am equally aware in any hospital, patients visitors, health care workers, doctors feeding on those franchising cafes are selling total crap stuffed with cheap ingredients for enormous prices.
Having a population with a retarded IQ, reliant on the "Health Care"
industry for their day to day existence, are in no way in a position
to expel the parasite and refresh the tree of liberty that is so
desperately needed.

people." - Henry Kissinger

8 年Great article that addresses a lot of details that I never learned in "Health & Phys. Ed." class in school. I'm fortunate that in Toronto, there are a few options for Healthy Normal Food restaurants. However, food accessibility and affordability is still somewhat difficult to attain here. Do you have any resources that shed light on the traditional / indigenous diet for South Asians? What did South Asians eat before breads and deep fried foods became part of our staple diet? Do you have any advice on which foods are best for reducing the accumulation of visceral fat? Thank you for sharing your insight!
