Singapore Innovation Ecosystem Highlights

  • Singapore and the Nordic countries rank within the top 20 of the latest Global Innovation Scorecard, a biennial ranking of 74 countries and the European Union by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). Singapore ranked 1st as the world’s most innovative country, based on wide-ranging indicators such as workforce education level and new business creation rate.
  • Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) in Singapore brings together bright young researchers and top scientific minds from around the world to discuss science and technology trends, future game changers and how research could address major global challenges. In this year’s summit, 10 promising young researchers from Finland, alongside 350 researchers from 49 countries. Key topics of interest are AI, quantum computing, climate change, the energy sector, and satellite technology.
  • Applications are now open for the 12th edition of Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition (LKYGBPC), one of Asia’s most exciting university-led startup challenges. The biennial competition is focused on Urban Solutions and Sustainability, challenging the brightest young founders from around the globe to revolutionize cities with cutting-edge solutions for a sustainable future.

Recap of 2024: Nordic innovations in sustainable solutions and fintech

In Q4 of 2024, Nordic Singapore Innovation Days took place during the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH), with the goal of driving pioneering initiatives and fostering lasting impacts via sustainable solutions and innovations. The programme saw a delegation of 32 Swedish and Finnish founders, incubators and investors visited Singapore to explore opportunities and synergies between these regions.

Continuing on Nordic-Singapore conversations, a Nordic+ FinTech Night was held during the week of Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF), which brought together key representatives to learn from our panel topic of "Responsible Fintech for a Sustainable Asia: Empowering Inclusive Growth", share perspectives through networking and establish new connections.

Neste and KPI OceanConnect, a global provider of marine energy solutions, collaborate on the supply of Neste MY Renewable Diesel? to the marine sector in Singapore in partnership with Global Energy for operational delivery in Singapore waters. This is the first time renewable diesel is supplied to the marine sector players to be used e.g. by cruise ships in Singapore. (Neste)

Stockholm Wood City project is set to provide 2,000 new homes by 2027

Initiated by Swedish urban developer Atrium Ljungberg, Stockholm Wood City extends over 250,000 square meters in Sickla, in the southern parts of Stockholm, and is thus the world's largest known urban construction project in wood. The new area houses additional 7,000 office spaces and 2,000 homes in a vibrant, urban environment. The first sod is planned to be turned in 2025 and the first buildings are expected to be completed in 2027. This project aims to mark a new era for sustainable architecture and urban development.
