The Nordic Hotelier #1

The Nordic Hotelier #1

Welcome to this first edition of The Nordic Hotelier - a bi-weekly newsletter focussing on unique hotels and hotel experiences across Scandinavia. Each edition will present a handful of the region's most interesting, intriguing and innovative properties that I've come across during my travels and research. I hope it inspires.

The Maria Hotel in Helsinki is the front runner in a new wave of Nordic hotel luxury. The hotel, which is the first hotel of its kind in the Finnish capital, is part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and offers 117 elegant rooms and suites with a modern touch. The name 'Maria' refers to the Danish princess and Russian empress, Maria Feodorovna who was a symbol of grace and beauty. I'm especially fond of the in-room saunas and historical location; the hotel occupies buildings from 1885 that once served as military offices and residential quarters.

Villa Dahlia is Stockholm's newest addition on the boutique hotel scene (although it has slightly more rooms) and, dare I say, the perfect spot for a long weekend in the capital. A sister property of the charming Villa Dagmar, Dahlia is located in a lesser charming building from 1966, but architect Per S?derberg has completely remodelled the premises, transforming it into something that resembles a Milanese townhouse from the 1920s. Villa Dahlia has 103 rooms and the owners aim to create a feeling of a 'curated home' rather than a hotel.

Lill?y Lindenberg will open its doors towards the end of 2024. Nestled in a secluded island in the region of Vestland in Norway, Lill?y is the brain child of Lindenberg Hospitality and acclaimed Norwegian interior designers, Vera and Kyte. This place is going to ooze modern sophistication and raw, unspoiled nature, and I'm there for it!

Bob W ?sterbro is Copenhagen's new apartment hotel boasting 165 studios and flats in a former chocolate factory in Copenhagen. The short-stay concept has really gained traction in recent years, and Bob W is taking it home with its dedication to local design and commitment to sustainability. This particular property has been developed in partnership with local design mavens, Third.space - Interior solutions by Lars Larsen Group .

The next edition of The Nordic Hotelier will be published on April 17th.
