Nordic Fintech Awards 2023 – celebrating those who are shaping the future of finance
The Nordic Fintech Awards by Copenhagen Fintech are all about celebrating the milestones, hard work, and successes of the startups that are shaping the future of finance.?
Ever since the awards came to be back in 2018, under the name ‘Copenhagen Fintech Awards’, they have strived to recognise some of the biggest names to-be in Nordic Fintech history.?
One such name is Pleo, one of the first ever winners of the awards and crowned ‘Danish Scaleup of the Year’ in 2018. Little did we know that we were presenting this award to a company who, 3 years later, would raise the largest investment round ever by any Danish-founded company at the time, a round which would subsequently catapult them into the coveted ‘unicorn status’.?
Looking forward another year to 2019, when Agreena (then Commoditrader) won the ‘New Nordic Fintech Startup’ Award, and Chainalysis took home the ‘Nordic Fintech Scaleup’ award.??
It's amazing to be able to say that Agreena is now available in 16 European countries, have helped transition more than 600,000 hectares to regenerative agriculture practices and have scaled their activities 10X in only the past year.??
Meanwhile, a year after their victory, Chainalysis was named Denmark’s latest fintech unicorn, and are now valued at a whopping USD 8.6 billion.?
But it’s not just the past winners who can celebrate such big milestones...?
2022 marked the growth of the ‘Copenhagen Fintech Awards’ into the ‘Nordic Fintech Awards’ - a celebration of the fintech startups all across the Nordics, and not just Denmark.?
As such, we grew: more categories were added, the superstar jury was expanded to include some of the biggest names in Nordic Fintech, and the ceremony moved to the biggest stage of the Nordic Fintech Week.??
This year was no exception, from the dozens of nominations we received, the jury debated and deliberated to select 10 finalists, and ultimately 5 winners, in the following categories:?

?Each of the winners was crowned on the Main Stage of the Nordic Fintech Week in front of an audience of 2000+ attendees.??
For Norwegian Web3 winner Lendwill, or as Jan Einar Slethei said on stage: "the so-called Tinder of lending", the winning meant more than just a trophy.
‘This award shows us just how much we are on the right track and that what we are building here is important, both for the FinTech community and our users. We see that people are more and more aware of their credit behaviour, and we are excited to continue our journey in building safe, sustainable and useful tools. Just as we have been doing all this time.’?
Whereas for the New Entry winner from Finland, the win was 'a validation of our mission at Comparables.ai '
It reinforces our belief that the type of AI technology that we are developing is making a significant impact on the finance industry. It's not just an accolade but a testament to our team's dedication and the value we bring to our users.
Other winners included Norwegian Two, who secured a win in the Growth category for their exponential progress in the online payment's world, having become fully operational in 3 markets (UK, Norway, & Sweden) in just the past few years. Danish Jamii.one, whose team win in the Impact category proves that ‘if you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’, and UK-based, Reality+, who are officially the first company to take home the title of ‘Global Game Changer’.?
Congratulations to each and every one of the winners, we can’t wait to see where you end up in the coming years. ???
Of course, also a huge thank you HSBC Innovation Banking for sponsoring this year’s awards, and our expert jury, without whom the awards would not even be possible - Philip Gradwell, Isobel Nordstrom, Mike Sigal, Philip Konopik, Silje Arnesen, Stine Kirstein Junge and Jacob Engsig.?
We can’t wait to do it all again next year, at what will be an even bigger and better event. Keep an eye out for further announcements for the Nordic Fintech Awards 2024.?
