Nordes EMS: New Investment in the SAR-1300-BD2 Depanelizer

Nordes EMS continues its commitment to providing high quality contract electronics manufacturing services by investing in advanced technologies and state-of-the-art equipment. The company has recently installed a modern automatic depanelling machine from SCHUNK, model SAR-1300-BD2, at its technology park in Wroclaw, Poland.

Innovative SAR-1300-BD2 Panel Separator

The SAR-1300-BD2 depanelling machine is a stand-alone panel separator with both single and double pendulum systems, offering significant production flexibility. Thanks to its precise linear components, the machine ensures the highest accuracy and efficiency in the milling process. The option to add a second pendulum transport and a second milling head allows the machine to be scaled according to production requirements.

The depanelizer is unique in its ability to perform board separation using two methods: milling and sawing. Milling is ideal for bridge-connected boards, while sawing is suitable for V-cut connections. This unique solution, which allows the use of both methods in one machine, significantly increases production flexibility and precision.

Using advanced technology, the new depanelizing machine minimises the risk of component damage during the cutting process, resulting in higher quality end products. It also features an automatic control system that monitors the depanelization process, ensuring consistent quality and repeatability.

Key features of the SAR-1300-BD2 depanelling machine include

  • Optional equipment with one or two milling heads (shaft or disc milling module);
  • Panel feeding with one or two pendulum axes, with the option to upgrade;
  • Shortest cycle times thanks to efficient linear motor axes and minimal downtime;
  • Precise milling with an accuracy of +/- 0.1 mm;
  • High technical availability (99.8%) thanks to quality components and simple design;
  • Ergonomic operator height, ensuring comfort even with large components, allowing the operator to avoid prolonged uncomfortable positions;
  • Economical solution with upgrade potential and short delivery times.

Why is Panelling so Important?

Panelization is the process of placing multiple circuit designs on a single production board, minimising wasted space and optimising the use of production area. This process is critical for a number of reasons:

1.????? Cost reduction: standard shapes and dimensions of PCBs allow better panel utilisation, which significantly reduces production costs. The unit cost of manufacturing a PCB depends largely on its panelisation potential - the closer the shape matches the panel dimensions, the lower is the production cost.

2.????? Assembly efficiency: automated PCBA assembly machines work more efficiently with PCBs of a certain minimum size. Most such machines require the longer side of the board to be at least 50mm. For smaller boards, panelling becomes essential.

3.????? Group projects: designers can group different projects on one board, reducing production and assembly costs. This is particularly important when producing very small or oddly shaped boards that are difficult to handle on automatic conveyors. Grouping such boards into larger panels allows for correct depanelization.

Advantages of Automated Depanelization over Manual Methods

Unlike manual depanelization, automated depanelization is a process that does not expose PCBs to the mechanical damage associated with manual methods. In manual processes, tools such as knives, saws or special pliers can cause stress and micro-damage to the edges of the PCB. For example, using a hand saw to separate boards can cause various vibrations that can damage delicate traces on the board and create unwanted burrs and irregularities on the edges.

With automatic depanelling, as offered by the SAR-1300-BD2 depanelizer, all movements are controlled by precise linear components, minimising the risk of mechanical damage. Automatic pendulum systems ensure smooth and controlled cuts, eliminating the vibration and stress that can occur with manual depanelization. This makes the entire process much safer for the PCB structure, resulting in higher quality end products and their assembly, as well as less production waste.

According to Marek Lendor , Production Director at Nordes #EMS - "Automatic depanelization is efficient, productive and improves quality, resulting in significantly better end results than manual methods. With precise movements and the elimination of mechanical damage risks, we can provide our customers with the highest quality products".

When Panelization is? Required

Panelization is essential when the longer side of the designed PCB is shorter than the minimum required length (usually around 50mm). It is also recommended for unusually shaped boards that may cause problems during automatic transport. Grouping such boards into more regular blocks facilitates subsequent depanelization, which separates the board into individual circuits.

The SAR-1300-BD2 depanelling machine from SCHUNK is the perfect solution for companies that want to increase their production efficiency while ensuring the highest quality and precision of their products. By investing in modern automatic depanelizing technology, Nordes #EMS is able to meet the growing demands of the electronics market and deliver first-class products to its customers.

"With new investments in equipment and modern technologies, #NordesEMS is constantly evolving. Our goal is to keep up with the trends and meet the expectations of even the most challenging requests and projects from our customers" – adds Marek Lendor. "Investments in advanced technologies demonstrate the company's continuous pursuit of excellence and innovation in the contract electronics manufacturing sector".
