Nonprofit gets largest gift in its history

Cheers to a rainy Friday, LinkedIn community. This was a big week for a Sacramento nonprofit.

My Sister's House — which serves families experiencing homelessness, domestic violence survivors and survivors of human trafficking — is the recipient of a $1.25 million donation from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund. The gift is the largest in the nonprofit's 24-year history.

My Sister's House CEO Yen Marshall called the award "a total surprise," saying that when she was invited to apply for the grant, she did not expect to receive the maximum dollar amount she applied for.

Nugget Market adding new local site

Davis-based Nugget Market, Inc. has filed plans for an anchor space at a Granite Bay retail center that was recently sold.

The chain is seeking permits to start work in an approximately 45,000-square-foot space at 4080 Douglas Blvd. in Granite Bay's Sierra Oaks Plaza. The space was previously occupied by Walmart Neighborhood Market, which?closed in April. Read more


Nate's Fine Foods expanding in Roseville

The City of Roseville and the Greater Sacramento Economic Council announced that Nate's Fine Foods in Roseville is expanding in its current location. The company had been considering its expansion out of state.

"I'm delighted to see Nate’s Fine Foods growing here in our community," said Krista Bernasconi , vice mayor of Roseville. "Their expansion brings new job opportunities and strengthens local partnerships, while also offering healthy, high-quality food options for our residents." Read more


Financial report from CapRadio shows debt, path to pay it off

CapRadio ended its fiscal year 2024 with $9.7 million in debt, mostly to its license holder California State University-Sacramento , but it has a plan to clear up its books and pay off vendors.

The listener-supported station released its annual financials for the first time since a scathing audit by the California State University system last September found debt and financial mismanagement at the station. Read more


Big Roseville retail center has new owner

One of the biggest and most visible shopping centers in the City of Roseville has a new owner.

Records show United Growth , based in San Rafael, bought the Ridge at Creekside at 1152 Galleria Blvd.?in Roseville. Developed in 2002, Ridge at Creekside has about 205,000 square feet of retail space, according to real estate information service?Reonomy. Anchor tenants include REI, World Market and Floor & Decor. Latest from Sacramento City Council

Sacramento leaders on Tuesday voted unanimously to put money toward tourism, banking on that money coming back to the city in tourist spending.

Three separate items?will put $40 million into investing in Old Sacramento, $2 million to promoting more festivals in the city and a commitment to allow transient-occupancy tax to aid development of a 330-room hotel in Downtown Sacramento for the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center.

Also on Tuesday, Sacramento City Council approved a pilot program that will allow cannabis dispensary operators to apply for a permit to expand operations to include consumption lounges.


17-acre shopping center planned in Sacramento County

A?high-growth?residential?area in Sacramento County is also getting some new retail development.

County planners are reviewing a pre-application for a 17.6-acre, grocery-anchored shopping center called Vineyard Station at the southwest corner of Florin and Bradshaw roads in the Vineyard area.

"We want to fit in with the existing environment and we designed the aesthetic around that," said Michael Nerby , listed as the project applicant and a member of the planned ownership group for the center.?Read more


Restaurant closes in Folsom's Palladio

Poke Noke has permanently closed its location in the City of Folsom , opting to not renew its lease due to "uncertainties" with the business climate.

The locally owned poke restaurant opened its site at 230 Palladio Parkway, Suite 1203, in the?Palladio at Broadstone center in 2019. It was the second location for the fast-casual eatery.

A sign was recently posted at the Folsom site stating Poke Noke has chosen to not renew its lease due to "the looming uncertainties of the future." Read more
