Lawrence R. Birkner Leadership Award:?? Recognizes a member of the SCAIHA or So. Cal IH Leader for displaying outstanding leadership in the field of industrial hygiene.

About Lawrence R. Birkner CIH: Lawrence (Larry) R. Birkner was a well-respected leader of the EH&S community.? Larry notably managed corporate-wide industrial hygiene and safety at ARCO, and was a passionate educator, serving as president of the Academy of Industrial Hygiene and a director on the board of AIHA. He was also an active leader in the Southern California AIHA, where he served as SCAIHA section president (1993) and is credited with preparing many of our current professionals for their CIH examinations.

Ruth McIntyre-Birkner Technical Achievement Award:? Recognizes a member of the SCAIHA or local IH Technical Professional for technical contributions to the field of industrial hygiene.

About Ruth K. McIntyre-Birkner: Ruth was the president of McIntyre Birkner & Associates, an IH, and management consulting firm. Much of her career was devoted to providing continuing education for adult learners. She ran programs that ranged from teaching supervisors how to conduct occupational safety and health compliance training to technical preparation courses for industrial hygiene certification. She developed, and for many years managed, the adult learning departments at the University of Minnesota Medical School at St. Paul-Ramsey Hospital, Ramsey Clinic, the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety, the University of Southern California, and the University of California, Los Angeles.
