Nomination Deadline Caps Most Active Election Cycle Since 2006

ITU staffers added further last-minute depth to the diverse choice of candidates teed-up during a cycle that has garnered the most nominees to fill the agency’s top five slots since the 2006 conference, a review of current and former candidates, indicated. The nomination period closed on 29 August. Nominees this year topped out at 15. Nominees in the run-up to PP-06 topped out at 19, including one who withdrew. Only one incumbent sought re-election to the same post during each cycle. BR Director Mario Maniewicz is the only incumbent vying for the same post this year. Former BR Director Valery Timofeev was the only incumbent for the same post in 2006.
