NOLA - Beignets on the Runway

At one point in my work career, I had flown through New Orleans Louis Armstrong Airport headed to somewhere else over 25 times and never set foot outside the airport. That all changed in 1999 when my company won our first contract in the city helping design and build out a local DLEC (a part of the internet). Fell in love with the beignets, coffee, food, culture, and music touring the city away from the tourist traps with local friends. None of which was represented at the rather care-worn airport terminal. Katrina some years later was like a body blow, all we could do was watch helplessly as system after system was destroyed by the storm and rising water. We worked as part of a team restoring different communications systems, which involved a number of trips to the region. I am glad to see that at last the airport has got a little local flavor. Look forward to my next visit.
