Nobody Is As Smart As Everybody...

Let me explain what that notion means to me...

It might seem to you that in the pursuit of business opportunity for Electric Vehicles Outlook Ltd I'm mostly out and about here and there with a host of EV people posing for pictures.

In truth, for much of the time, reading and writing, I work at home, on my own.

In a little office, in a little garden, often living in my own little world! Boo - hoo!

However, either on a call or in person and as often as I can, I hook up with friends, clients, associates and acquaintances - many of whom have travelled into my world courtesy of LinkedIn - people just like you! These encounters are what energise me, generate ideas and opportunites, and help me define what I get to do each day.

They also remind me that we can only truly progress if we all link up our hearts and minds!

And, I'm truly astonished that as of this week-end, over 200,000 people have now chosen to 'follow me' on this platform - and please believe me when I tell you I'm both flattered and surprised in equal measure by that! How has that happened?

Well, I've managed to do quite a bit of Writing and Liking and Sharing here since starting my own enterprise three years ago, and as a consequence, I'm truly enriched in terms of both knowledge and a passion for the EV journey that I know we walk and talk together on. It never ceases to amaze me of the adventures that can emerge from simply connecting up with a like-minded but unknown individual, or an amazing start-up team somewhere far far away.

As an example...

In late 2016 I met up with a recent connection - Graeme Edge - at the 'Virgin Disruptors' gig in London that year, and what an inspirational day that was!

Only a few weeks after coming to the UK and mixing it up with many fellow attendees and speakers, upon his return to Calgary, Canada, Graeme decided to act on the mantra of the day...

Take risks, make a difference, work together.

Together with his partner Michelle Edge and associate Rachel Maxwell, they came up with a grand plan, a noble ambition, a real risky venture to bring together oilies and greenies under one roof. It breathes life into the words of Dan Millman in his 1980's book "Way Of The Peaceful Warrior"when he says...

The Secret of Change Is to Focus All of Your Energy, Not on Fighting the Old, But on Building the New

And that's right at the heart of a big ambition for me too this year so I'm hooking up with my Canadian chums for www.energydisruptors.com in Calgary this May - together with a few speakers there you might recognise and/or follow here on LinkedIn! Maybe you'd like to come along too? - you'd be very welcome as I'd love to say hello in person!

Energy & Mobility have always been intertwined of course, so we are gathering together both disruptors and incumbents engaged in all of that to progress a mutually beneficial plan! In truth, to build on and accelerate the momentum that is rapidly emerging around the world as the myriad unintended consequences of two previous centuries now manifest themselves upon the current one.

I think it's pragmatic and powerful to bring together both well established and experienced players with the crazy upstarts, and to reconcile all their shared ambitions into a cohesive and credible way of moving forward.

Incongruous? - some will think so!

Risky? - taking chances is much of what life's all about!

Productive? - it's all about what can be done as a consequence of the gathering.

What this all adds up to in my mind is that a fundamental shift is underway towards far more collaboration - and a lot less wasteful competition around the place.

That seems counter-intuitive perhaps to much of how things have been and mostly still are, but I sense there are dynamics in play that will edge us towards a new way of thinking, and a new way of being. A way in which more than ever before - together, everyone, achieves, more!...because for sure - nobody is as smart as everybody!
