#NOATAR2020 Wash Up

Dear #NOATAR2020 Friends and Supporters,
Thank you sincerely for your commitment in getting behind a cause intended to relieve stress on young people, already heavily impacted by COVID19. Year 12 is a stressful year under normal circumstances and enforcing exams and an ATAR under these conditions seems quite heartless.
The fact that the Education Council has ‘delivered certainty’ to students by declaring you will receive your ATAR, as though that were some kind of gift on their part is marketing spin at it’s finest. A death sentence provides certainty for prisoners and yet not too many are keen to receive it. The GOOD NEWS is that the #NoATAR2020 petition placed pressure on State Governments and the Education Council to have a greater focus on equity and in particular increasing IT provision for those without a device in most states. The other achievement was that they gave states such power to modify assessment for students and in many cases passed this power onto schools and principals to ensure this was done equitably was good to see.
So there you have it. There will be an ATAR for 2020. My advise to young people remains largely unchanged. Work to your optimal capacity, but don’t over work either, hopefully you will be given entry to study your preferred course. If you don’t receive your top preference there are several back door entry options into almost all courses, you just need to be determined and keep asking questions until you find them. Don’t just accept no and give up.
Also, look carefully at those Universities that are providing entry based on Year 11 results, ANU, UTas, Uni Adelaide, UWA, Griffith, Macquarie ACU and Swinburne. There may even be a few more soon. Well done and congratulations to these institutions for your creativity, flexibility and humanity.

4 年“Don’t just accept no and give up.” Great advice for students Peter. I was one of those students that got in through the back door. If there’s a will, there’s a way.
