The no.1 mistake you are making on Linkedin, which is hampering your personal brand.

The no.1 mistake you are making on Linkedin, which is hampering your personal brand.

Do you know what doesn’t work on LinkedIn?

Sales pitches via DM on your first conversation.

And don't get me wrong. Sale pitch is necessary, but not in the first interaction with anyone it's also includes dialogues like "Hey check out my latest post it has a lot of features, "hey I have a business opportunity where you will be a millionaire overnight, "hey invest your money in our software and you will get 10x more results"

Like seriously that's how you start a conversation with someone?

I am not saying it's bad to sell your service or product but why people buy from you? People only buy from people they like and people buy from people they know. At least try to gain trust first before selling anything. Yup, I also provide consulting service to build a personal brand on any social media but I don't directly sell pitch, someone, before knowing them and their problems they are facing.

At the end of the day we all are human and we all have emotions and nobody wants forced attention. Yup DM'S are a brilliant way to build relationships and do business but it should be done in the right way. I felt very sad and irritated to be quite honest when I receive messages who are just interested in selling their service and cares nothing about the customer.

Always remember:-You gain trust and permission to talk to people by showing up in a way that you'd want someone to show up for you. Treat your connections as real people and not just some random social media following.

I know many outs here want results fast but sorry if you want to build your brand you have to take the longer route.

Just sharing my perspective. Let me know what you think of this.

Sales pitches are quite off putting.

Nice and insightful post. I always tell everyone, "I will tell you what I do, not what I sell via a DM or intro." I'll definitely use content to tell you via my posts about what I do and wait for the perfect chance to ascend/convert. Pitching via DM out of nowhere seems to be the worst of all practices out there.

This is so true. ?? I'm a firm believer that your first impression tell a hell lot of things about you. Work on building a connection first. Let's just not deny the fact that we all judge people in first few minutes. By judging, i don't mean making up the whole story about that person. NO We slightly get an idea about his personality.
