????NMA Monday Alert #65

Hey there, great to have you back! After just too much rain, this week is supposedly much better with summer sun here in Hamburg. We’ll see.

Also, let’s talk a bit about the Euro2024. Hamburg hosted five games here and we liked to have tens of thousands of people from other European countries here in our lovely city. Obviously, it’s sad that the German team lost to Spain, but that’s just the way soccer can be. What we have witnessed in the tournament was a team that grew together over the last few weeks and was able to overcome obstacles. Our coach Julian Nagelsmann said that he put together a team not consisting of the best players, but of those players that would form the best team. This just the way the best startups are setup - you don’t need the best people available, you need the people that form the best team.

We’re looking forward to the World Cup. ??

Independence Day Reception

On July 2nd we got invited to the Independence Day Reception hosted by the US Consulate General. We met with collaboration partners and discussed transatlantic business opportunities for startups. Also, we had great burgers provided by John’s Burgers from Kiel, which is one of the best burger places out there.

?? Startup Ecosystem Updates ??

The magic of small engineering teams

  • small teams (a.k.a. one-pizza teams) have less overhead and can achieve more quickly

New Web Development. Or, why Copilots and chatbots are particularly bad for modern web dev

  • this is an interesting argument about the paradigm shift happening in web development and how LLMs can only apply what they have been trained upon - building something new won’t work and devs have to rely on their own skillsets
