NLS ONLINE LECTURES: HOW IS YOUR MIND RESPONDING TO THIS?

NLS ONLINE LECTURES: HOW IS YOUR MIND RESPONDING TO THIS?

Are you currently a student of the Nigerian Law School? Then this message is for you.

In my post titled "The Covid-19 Pandemic: A Message to the Nigerian Law School Student", I made mention of the fact that there would be a Post-Covid-19 era and you will resume activities in full force, as if nothing happened.  You can find the article in the link below:

Well, it is obvious that the Nigerian Law School would not wait for the era to end before resuming activities. I just saw a notification that online lectures would commence soon. While the Law School is ready to move on, are you also ready to move on at the same frequency?

If you are not, then there would be a problem, a big one.

This is not the first time the Institution would be making adjustments to its calendar. In my time, the examination was preponed by two weeks and this notice did not go down well with us. I mean, those two weeks were very very important.

When that happened, I wrote these words (a letter to myself) in my journal:

 "NLS DIARIES- 30th May 2019

And so I just got info that Bar Finals has been brought forward by two weeks.

Well, Grace Kalu, listen to what I have to tell you:

Your success isn't dependent on those two weeks.

Your RS and BOB goal isn't dependent on the two weeks taken away.

The deposits in you make the difference. You are smart, intelligent, excellent, outstanding and you have all it takes to give substance to your dream.

Yes, you'd sit up, cut out distractions and focus because you need discipline for the journey ahead.

You have two full months and two weeks. A whole lot of difference will happen within that time. You will understand things clearly and commit things to your memory.

You will ride on a refined strength and God's word will give you great company.

God is interested in your success at the bar finals and so I am.

 Regards,

The Real You"

I wrote that letter to myself because I wanted to be in charge of what I allowed into my mind. It was safer that way. Much safer because it helped me to divert my mind from the tension that existed during that period.

While your situation is different from mine in that the adjustment affects the mode of learning and not the exam timetable, you can still learn a lesson or two from my RESPONSE to that situation. Be proactive in your thoughts and make no room for negative vibes. Do not relegate yourself to fate at this point. I know that this season could present a perfect excuse in that, after your result is released and you're not satisfied with it, you may be tempted to say it was because of Covid-19 and the online lectures introduced by the Law School. Now is the time to beat this mindset.

See, the Law School is using this method to save time so that your session would still end as planned. Therefore, I recommend these tips:

?Open your mind to accept the mode of learning that will be introduced. Get excited about it and look forward to learning online.

?Don't be found in circles complaining about how this method wouldn't work at all.

?Participate in class and make sure you personally solve the tasks that would be given.

?Don't give up on your goals. Always encourage yourself to do well.

?Sharpen your Information Technology skills. We are in a digital age and you are expected to be up to date with digital technology. I don't know what Platform will be used for the lecturers. Whatever it is, Google the platform and learn how to use it.

?Never lose sight of the fact that you are still a student. Let your spirit, soul and body get a hold of this fact.

You may want to ask, how about Data? While we would never dispute the fact that Law School is expensive, I would want you to consider that if you were in school now, you would have had to spend lots of money on feeding, buying tasks, dry-cleaning, etc. Now that you're not spending on those, it is a bit relieving and you could at least, divert that attention to getting data. If it wouldn't be video classes, it makes it cheaper.

Indeed these are trying times, but I want you to keep up the conviction that this phase will soon pass, and you shall come out of it stronger. You surely have a story to tell.

I am always praying for you.
