Hello and welcome back, I'm Fiona Campbell, your partner on the path to empowerment and excellence, and I'm thrilled to bring you the latest edition of our LinkedIn newsletter. In this edition, we're diving into the fascinating world of NLP – Advanced Communication Skills for Business and Coaching, a topic that has the potential to transform not only the way we communicate with others but, perhaps even more importantly, the way we converse with ourselves.
You see, when it comes to mastering NLP techniques, the journey often begins within. By exploring our inner worlds, we lay the foundation for understanding and positively impacting the 'inside' worlds of those we lead and coach. As I mentioned in our last newsletter, neuroscience has revealed the profound connection between our thoughts, feelings, actions, and the results we achieve.
Let's start and discover how changing your self-talk can lead to remarkable improvements in your personal and professional life. It's a journey well worth taking. Enjoy your read!
Changing Your Self –Talk
When it comes to using NLP techniques, the best place to start is with yourself. When you know what you are doing in your own “inside” world” it becomes much easier to ask others the people you lead and coach what they are doing in their “inside world”
As I mentioned in my last newsletter, we now know from neuroscience that all behaviour comes from a thought.
Thoughts = Feelings = Actions =Results.
Thoughts create feelings. These feelings will propel you to take action or not. An example of this notice what you are saying to yourself to become motivated. Then compare what you are saying to yourself to become demotivated. How motivated you are to do something will impact on the results you get.
One of the quickest ways of changing behaviour is to change what you are thinking. The easiest way to check what you are it thinking is to ask yourself “what do I think about this?” When you start to listen to your self-talk you become much more aware of how you are creating your feelings.
We also know that your brain is compelled to do anything you tell or ask it.
For example, if you are telling yourself “I will never have the confidence to deliver an engaging presentation” you are right. Telling yourself that means that your brain has to start creating the chemicals that make you feel bad. Notice the difference if you say to yourself “I will practice presenting until I become confident in engaging my audience”
If I say to you don’t think of purple rabbits, because purple rabbits is in the sentence your brain thinks of purple rabbits. So the secret when changing your self-talk is saying what you want to happen rather than what you don’t want to happen.
