NL FinTech Hiring Insights

After the rapid and seemingly limitless growth years of 2021-2022, FinTech hiring appears to have entered a different phase in 2023. To gain more insights into the Dutch Fintech Employment market, we've examined six Fintech companies with a tech presence in the Netherlands: Mollie, Mambu, Bux, Bunq, Fourthline, and Klarna.

Firstly, let's understand the current size and geographical distribution of their tech teams:



As illustrated in the second chart, Mollie, Bunq, and Klarna continued to grow their tech teams in 2023. For all three, most of this growth was outside of the Netherlands. Mambu seems to have stabilized its size but is shifting its hiring focus to the Netherlands, as depicted in the third graph. Both Fourthline and Bux reduced their tech teams in 2023.



Examining current job openings and the recent growth/decline of recruitment teams provides insights into hiring plans for the near future.

Although Mambu downsized its global recruitment team, they appear serious about increasing the share of their NL tech team. A third of their recruitment team is based in the Netherlands, and more than a third of their tech job openings are in Amsterdam.

Both Mollie and Bunq show aspirations to grow their tech teams abroad, even though their recruiters are all based in the Netherlands. It appears that Klarna has no ambitions to expand their NL tech team; there are no job openings, and no recruiters are based in the Netherlands.
