Nitecore TIP SE - Review
Nitecore has released a new keychain flashlight, with a strong beam light, as usual. The TIP SE has a max output of 700 lumens and 90m beam distance throw. It’s another tiny rechargeable light, but this time we have a USB C port instead of the micro USB (with a Usb C cable included).
The LED is 2 x OSRAM P8. Here's how it looks like on the max level:
It’s an aluminium alloy body (HA III hard anodized finish), with two switches. One for power, and one for light modes. It weighs 26g and it’s 60mm long.
The user experience is easy, by pressing the power button to turn on, and the mode button to go through the levels of brightness. The TIP SE is featuring a demo mode and daily mode. To access the daily mode, keep both buttons pressed. One flash indicates the demo mode and 2 flashes indicates the daily mode. Keep in mind that in demo mode, the light shuts off after 30 seconds. It’s not because the light doesn’t last or because the battery is running out.
Here you have the runtime depending on the level of brightness:
You can also check how much battery you have remaining. Click the Mode button while the light is off, and the switches (not the main emitter) will flash according to cell charge as follows:
· 3 flashes, cell is >50%
· 2 flashes, cell is below 50%
· 1 flash, cell is below 10%
Some other UI modes activation:
· When Off – click power switch to access memory mode
· When off – hold the power switch to access low
· When on- hold the mode switch to access turbo
· When off- hold the power switch more than 2 seconds, to access momentary turbo
So the best part, if needed, you have direct access to low. You don’t have to go through all the levels to get there.
The detachable pocket clip that comes with it, covers the USB C port and is great for every day carry, if you want to attach it to your cap, pocket or backpack. The steel ring connector is useful if you want to attach your keys.
It’s also IP54 rated and 1m impact resistant.
So all in all, in terms of technicality, the main difference TIP SE brings ( in comparison to the other TIPs) is the USB C port.
