The "Nit-picky" career decision
Prajwal Shyale
Brand Strategist | Filmmaker | Storyteller with a Decade in Media, Research, Events and Corporate Management
Having completed Masters in Thermal Engineering (specialized in Mechanical engineering), backed by 2+ years of experience in Training and R&D, I have now reached a phase where I have decided to change my domain. Yes it's a big leap - from hardcore Technical to Media.
Why this change in area of interest? And how will my stability be trusted?
Well, ever since graduation I was always known for my communication skills and organizing events. Things I did way back then to manage minor expenses were mystery shopping, market research surveys, product launch events and blogging. These activities tapped open an engineer’s marketing brain. Adding to this, I am a passionate weekend filmmaker who urges to convey socioeconomic topics. I still love engineering sciences, whereas of late I realized that my key strengths are all in the Visual Communication. Yes, I was designated as an RA, but most of my activities in my previous tenure included departmental communication, handling social media, coordinating events & workshops, content creation and producing promotional videos. Though I was good at it, all of these were self-learned and no formal training was given to me. And through my friends who are into theater and my fiancee who hails from broadcast media, I even learnt the art of gripping audience’s attention while delivering a specific content using my own style and creativity. To be very transparent, having been a part of a 2 failed start-up ventures, I also learned the art of leadership, setting financial goals and deadlines all through my mistakes.
Media is an ocean out there - Print, entertainment and social. At the age where society believes that I should have been settled by now and seeing all my friends in mid managerial positions here I am– Pondered 100’s of hours, prepared to start from scratch and the realization that I can make a career by directly leveraging my skills made me chose my true area of interest. Except content writing, be it a show producer (TV & Radio) or a PR or corporate film-making or advertising everything looks lucrative because. I know my potential but not the route. How do I start? Where do I head?
