NIO Partners with WWF to Support Changdao National Park (Candidate)

On December 20th, NIO, in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), One Planet Foundation, and the Ocean Conservation Research Team of the FIO, officially launched the fourth stage of NIO Clean Parks' ecological collaboration with WWF in Changdao National Park (Candidate) in Shandong.

Since Earth Day 2022, NIO and WWF have officially joined forces as strategic partners in the Clean Parks Ecological Collaboration Program, and have been supporting ecological patrols and establishing clean energy infrastructure using smart electric vehicles in the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, Giant Panda National Park, and Qilian Mountain National Park. Notably, we successfully implemented the world's first V2G photovoltaic self-circulating energy supplement system in Qilian Mountain National Park.

For this leg, we've landed on Shandong Changdao, embarking on marine ecological environmental protection, constructing a national park zero-carbon community, and safeguarding rare marine creatures like spotted seals and East Asian finless porpoises. Together, we are actively engaged in the development of a green island ecology.

A pivotal ecological zone where the Yellow and Bohai Seas converge at the seashore

Changdao, also recognized as the Changshan Archipelago, rests between the Jiaodong Peninsula and the Liaodong Peninsula. Stretching from north to south in the Bohai Strait, these islands document a rich biodiversity of over 3,500 terrestrial, marine, and aerial species."

Changdao boasts China's most emblematic temperate marine-shallow sea wetland-island terrestrial ecosystem. It stands as one of the most diverse and comprehensive areas within the ecosystems of the Yellow and Bohai Seas, harboring a notable concentration of rare and endangered species.

"The sea area around Changdao serves as a crucial migration corridor and foraging habitat for nationally protected animals, specifically spotted seals.

The West Pacific spotted seal stands as the flagship species within the marine ecosystems of the Yellow and Bohai Seas and is the sole fin-footed animal naturally reproducing in China's waters. Changdao serves as their 'maritime relay station.' Following November, a substantial number of spotted seals traverse Changdao arriving at Liaodong Bay for reproduction and breeding, returning the next March accompanied by newborn seal pups.

In addition to spotted seals, a myriad of animals and plants, including East Asian finless porpoises, Songjiang perch, black-tailed gulls, sea cormorants, zostera marina, sargassum thunbergii, and ulva, collectively contribute to the rich biodiversity in this area."

Tilling the Sea, Fishing, and Ranching - Joining Hands to Build Changdao National Park

Established in 2018, the Changdao Marine Ecological Civilization Comprehensive Experimental Zone is the sole marine ecological civilization experimental zone in China, dedicated to realizing the unity of protection and development. Presently, Changdao has been designated as a candidate area for a national park, as part of China's national park layout plan."

NIO will collaborate with WWF, One Planet Foundation, and the Ocean Conservation Research Team of FIO, to conduct relevant projects in the Changdao National Park (Candidate).

NIO Clean Parks will also supply a fleet of smart electric vehicles and establish clean, low-carbon energy-supplementing facilities. This initiative supports the Ocean Conservation Research Team of the FIO in conducting long-term field scientific observation and research in the Changdao National Park (Candidate). Collaboratively, they will propel the construction of an energy self-circulation system."

Furthermore, we will advance the construction of zero-carbon communities, endorse the development of sustainable fisheries, advocate for sustainable aquaculture models, uphold marine ecological balance, contribute to the restoration of seagrass beds and seaweed fields, boost marine blue carbon, and collaboratively strengthen ecological protection and development in the Changdao National Park (Candidate). We invite all parties to join hands in creating Changdao National Park.
