The Leadership South Shore cohort took their first bus trip of the year for the Health & Human Services program day.?LSS Alumna Pauline Murnin and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts hosted our panel discussion in the morning (and sponsored our delicious lunch!).?The group of experts assembled Lyn Frano, Cassandra Janusz, MS, LMHC, Todd Kerensky, MD and Noel Sierra brought their passion and knowledge to the discussion which focused on our theme for the day “Systems, Barriers, and Support Surrounding Substance Use Disorder”.?They left us with great ideas on how as individuals or with our organizations we could raise our awareness and get involved in the support efforts. The bus then took us to Quincy where our amazing hosts gave tours of their facilities and allowed us to speak directly with those working in the field.??Thank you Father Bill's & MainSpring, Manet Community Health Center, Inc. and A New Way Peer Recovery Bay State Community Services, Inc. for all you do for our communities. It's a wrap! The Leadership South Shore 2023-2024 cohort officially graduated from the program this week! Surrounded by friends, family, sponsors, alumni, Steering & Advisory Committee and the incoming 2024-2025 cohort, the celebration was enjoyed by all! Thank you to host Cardinal Cushing Centers, Inc. and alumni member Michelle Markowitz for the beautiful space to hold this amazing event. Jim Dunphy, CPA, CMA CEO of South Shore Bank and Peter Forman CEO of South Shore Chamber of Commerce addressed the group, reminiscing of the early days of the program 9 years ago and how far we have come! Special thanks to our Alumni Guest Speaker Erin Venezia Joyce, PE Mayor of Braintree. It all started here! This cohort is super energetic, enthusiastic and engaged in everything they do....already offering their support to the future cohort and the Leadership South Shore program. Several of our Leadership South Shore alumni gathered recently on a beautiful spring afternoon for our annual "hours of service" project. Thank you to Pamela Denholm and the Weymouth Food Pantry for allowing us to help prepare the Community Garden for the season. Yes, we got our hands dirty! But we also learned a lot about the impact this garden is having in the community. When the job was complete the conversation continued....not only about food insecurity, food equity and the importance of food pantries in our community...but also what we can do to help reduce our carbon footprint (buy locally grown food of course!!). Our final program day of the year (can't believe how fast the time went!) focused on Arts & Culture. The cohort had a great time traveling to Plymouth to visit Spire Center for the Performing Arts where we heard from Kim Corben and John Emler about all the amazing work the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra is doing to enhance our region. Not only a first-class orchestra right in our backyard, but a true partner in music education with the Plymouth school system. We then walked a bit down the street (in the rain of course!) to Pilgrim Hall Museum. History came alive when our host Donna Curtin not only gave us a tour of the museum, but a sneak peek behind the scenes! A quick walk across the street for lunch at The Artisan Pig restaurant was not only delicious, but we learned how closely the restaurants and small businesses in the area work so closely with the arts community to drive economic growth. Thank you Peter L. Brown LSS Alumni and President of Tiny & Sons Glass Co. for organizing and sponsoring our lunch! Next stop, The Company Theatre in Norwell hosted our panel discussion. An amazing group of experts in the field that spoke of the importance of the arts in education (with career pathways a highlighted topic!) and mental health therapy. Thank you Jessica Feenan for moderating and bringing your own area of expertise (Rodman for Kids) to the conversation. Reminder.....Alumni afternoon of service this Friday!

It was Economic Development Day, and the theme was "Reimagine". Starting our day with Melanie and Brian at Rustic Marlin who transformed their home business into a full manufacturing facility right in Hanover! Their history and journey are inspirational. Melanie O'Neil Brian O'Neil thanks for the tour and the breakfast! Next stop, Hanover Crossing. Talk about reimagine! From the old Hanover Mall to the new outdoor design, Ed Callahan GM of PREP Property Group (PREP) walked us through the transformation. Special thanks to LSS almuni Lisa Berardinelli for organizing this part of the day...including lunch at Sullivan's and raffle prizes from some Hanover Crossing tenants! (and thanks to our lunch sponsors, alumni Nicole Joy Hales of PRfirst Public Relations and LSS Advisor Jacqueline Collins of Partnering for Performance). Jackson Square in Weymouth was our next stop, where Bill Kingdon from Ellis Realty described the proposed redevelopment of the area. Conversations around the housing and workforce shortages were the perfect set up for our afternoon panel discussion! Every year our cohort spends a day learning a little more about our Justice system....and once again we started our day in jail! Thank you Sheriff Patrick McDermott for allowing us to visit and spend some time with the amazing staff at Norfolk County, MA Sheriff's Office. The programs that have been developed that focus on "re-entry starts day one" are impressive. We then spent lunch with our friends at Braintree Police Department and heard what "life in the day of the Family Services Unit" entails. We left with a better understanding of the behavioral and mental health training that is required of our Officers. Special thanks to Cassandra Janusz, MS, LMHC and Sargeant Michael Arki for humanizing the difficult work they are called to do. We ended our day with an amazing panel discussion, facilitated by LSS alumna Kimberly Kroha. Thank you to Judge Robert Harnais, Quincy District Court, Sabrina Bonanno Criminal Defense Attorney at Sweeney and Associates LLC, Nicole Champagne, LMHC VP of Rehabilitative Justice at Bay State Community Services, Inc. and Kristen R. Program Director of Behavioral Health Supports for Justice Involved Individuals.
