Nine Things You Didn’t Know About the PlaneSense PC-24 Jet

The Pilatus PC-24 Jet is one of the most sought after private jets (JetNet, May 2019), and it’s no wonder why it’s causing such a stir. The jet’s unique and innovative design makes it a stand out in the light jet market. As the foundation of the PlaneSense? fractional jet program, the PC-24 offers a complete package of versatility, reliability, and operational excellence, where other jets its size can’t compete. Here are nine reasons why the PC-24 is so admired among PlaneSense fractional share owners and pilots alike:

1. A Cabin like No Other

Step inside the PC-24 jet and you’ll immediately notice the remarkably spacious cabin size. At 500 cubic feet, the cabin surprises many who see it for the first time because it is longer, wider, and taller than most light jets. The jet seats eight comfortably with plenty of head and leg room for even the tallest passengers. The aircraft’s flat floor provides a more comfortable flight, perfect for stretching out and moving around. Pets love the flat floor, too!

2. Go Where No Business Jet Has Gone Before

The PC-24 can access runways that most jets can’t access. Thanks to wing design, a large double-slotted flap system, spoiler arrangement, and slow stall speed, the PlaneSense PC-24 jet can access runways as short as 3,000’. This means fractional share owners have access to thousands more airports than similarly-sized jets, getting them closer to their ultimate destination than ever before.

3. Your luggage won’t freeze

The PC-24 jet offers something that many jets its size don’t – substantial interior cargo space. This means your luggage is safely tucked away in the climate controlled cabin instead of an exterior cargo hold. Nothing freezes and you can access your bags during flight. With 50 cubic feet of storage, there’s plenty of room for all of your luggage. The large cargo door at the rear of the plane allows easy loading and unloading of all your gear.

4. You’re in Control

Passengers can control the lights and temperature of the cabin from their smart phones. Simply log in to the e-connect system and you’re in control of your comfort. The PC-24 is also equipped with GoGo Wi-Fi. Access the internet, email, text, listen to SiriusXM radio, and more as soon as you’re above 10,000 feet. You can also follow your flight from your smart phone. Check in on your location, flight speed, and altitude as you fly.

5. Engines Do More than Propel the Jet

The Williams engines on the PC-24 jet feature Quiet Power Mode? (QPM), where one engine is able to run at low speed to provide auxiliary power to the jet’s onboard systems while on the ground. While this may not be something a passenger necessarily notices, it makes a difference to pilots who are landing at small airports without ground power units to run the onboard technology, lights, and air conditioning. The QPM runs at a lower decibel rate and is often quieter than ground power units (GPU). This technology provides the added benefit of an auxiliary power unit (APU) without the complexity and added weight of other systems, which benefits the overall performance of the jet.

6. Fast and Slow

The PC-24 can travel up to 500 miles per hour at altitude, keeping pace with most aircraft its size, but it’s the jet’s stall speed that truly sets it apart from the competition. Stall speed is the slowest an aircraft can fly to maintain level flight. The PC-24 jet’s stall speed is a mere 81 knots, meaning it can fly under full control at that speed. This plays an important role in its short runway performance, allowing it to land at a much lower speed and come to a full stop much sooner. Every jet has a different stall speed based on its design. The PC-24 jet’s slow stall speed capability is due to the design of the wings and the overall design of the aircraft.

7. Braking Power

In some airports, like Telluride, Colorado (KTEX), where air density is low, some jets have to wait hours to cool down their brakes after landing. This is due to the abrupt braking needed to land safely. Under normal conditions, the PC-24 brakes do not need to be cooled after landing. This is due to larger brakes, dual tires, and low stall speed. When the PC-24 arrives in Telluride to pick you up for your flight, you won't have to wait for it to cool down and you will be on your way much more quickly than other jets.

8. Synthetic Vision

While not a new technology, synthetic vision is a state-of-the art tool in the PC-24 cockpit that provides a topographical image of the terrain. It’s especially helpful in conditions where clouds or weather may inhibit the pilot’s view. Synthetic vision is utilized in conjunction with other instruments that assist pilots in these conditions. PlaneSense PC-24 pilots have found synthetic vision so useful that it’s now being added to all the PC-12 turboprops in the program’s fractional fleet.

9. No Step Climb

Most light business jets require a series of small climbs to reach cruising altitude, whereas the PC-24 is fully capable to climb directly to 45,000 feet in 25 minutes, with an initial climb rate of 4,000 feet per minute and an average of 1,800 feet per minute. This exceptional climb capability is due to the power of the engines, which provide enough thrust for the jet to reach its ideal altitude without the delays that some aircraft need. Flying at higher altitudes allows the jet to operate at its maximum performance and with greater efficiency.
