Nine Management Lessons I Learned Parenting Teens
- Monitor, Monitor, Monitor. Randomly check the multiple incremental deliverables. Deadline is a deadline or the other option is to eternally slip and fail.
- Set very clear cut boundaries like zero tolerance for disrespect or missing work. Respect their opinions, priorities and success criteria. It is a two way street. Never dig the past. Spilled milk is of no use and is a waste of your time.
- Mentor, Mentor, Mentor !!! Help and encourage team members to discover their niche and fulfill their dreams. Invest time and you will always reap what you sowed.
- Reward major accomplishments. Encourage to experiment and succeed. Be the biggest cheer leader. Even billionaires have moments when they lack confidence. Never ask millennials to repeatedly execute tasks they absolutely hate and surprise, surprise, they will quit.
- Democratize talent and cut the cord as soon as possible. Help team members avoid fear of failure and take responsibility. We all learn many valuable survival and self-problem solving skills when we fail.
- Gather feedback from other colleagues up, down and at the same level. Consolidate, prioritize and communicate with a plan. Meet team members in the place of their need.
- Great examples always help. Never insult by comparing, all five fingers do not have the same size.
- Be a good listener to mitigate risks. Holistic problem solving is proactively identifying most of the root causes; collaboratively, creatively and resourcefully solving those using data points.
- Be the humble, flexible, incomplete servant leader. You will be surprised ....Admit when you’re wrong or fail. Lead by example. The End.
