Nine to Know: New Year’s Edition ??
01: Lessons From a First-time Dog Owner
A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO, Lauren Parker
We have a new addition to the Parker household.?
Meet Nova.?
I didn’t grow up with dogs, so – along with our three kids – I’m a first-time dog owner. It’s been an incredible experience so far (potty training aside). I’ve learned a lot, including some lessons that have served as good reminders at work.?
Learn by Doing. You can’t exactly have a philosophical conversation with a puppy about why it’s not OK to bite, nor can you have them watch a TED Talk about sit, down or shake. Dogs learn by doing. Practice and repetition go a long way; same goes for writing, presenting, designing and a host of other things we do on the job.?
Let Others Lead. My kids are 8, 8 and 6 years old. I’d assumed the bulk of the responsibilities, from training to potty pick-ups, would fall to me. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see them rise to the occasion and take responsibility for her care. It’s a good reminder to trust those around you to get the job done.?
Love Loud. The fierce intensity of joy and excitement from her when I enter a room is staggering. She acts like I’m Taylor Swift and she’s president of the Swifties. We can all use more of that, so I’m reminded to congratulate others’ accomplishments, remind my team I appreciate them and shout out great work when I see it. Try it yourself and see how bright the workday becomes.?

05: CEOs ?? PR Teams
CEOs are often seen as the face of the business. And behind that CEO, there’s usually a PR team working alongside senior leaders to grow the reputation of the company. However, there’s a greater opportunity for CEOs and PR professionals to work hand-in-hand on company objectives. Read more from PR News about the benefits of a closer relationship between CEOs and their PR teams.
