Cytomos raises £1.6m to pioneer cell analysis tech?

Edinburgh-based life sciences startup Cytomos has secured £1.6m funding to develop a groundbreaking new approach to cell analysis.??

The company’s novel cell analysis platform, Cytomos Dielectric Spectroscopy (CDS), is a low-cost, portable and scalable alternative to traditional analysis systems.?

Cytomos said the funding with enable the firm to expand and further develop its platform.??

Scottish Games Week to showcase country’s ‘secret weapon’?

Scottish Games Week, the first-ever week-long, Scotland-wide series of events focused on videogames, is set to take place later this year.?

Created and organised by the Scottish Games Network, the series will run from October 24th to 28th, with events being held in Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Borders.?

Brian Baglow, director of Scottish Games Network, said the festival aims to showcase the strength of the Scottish games ecosystem.?

Skyscanner has announced a partnership with Edinburgh-based startup Pawprint that will see the global travel firm strengthen its commitment to tackling climate change.?

Through the partnership, Skyscanner’s 1000+ global employees have been invited to use the Pawprint app, which helps users measure, understand and reduce their carbon footprints at home and at work.?

Established in 2002, the organisation seeks to encourage new ideas from health and social care staff, helping to tackle key challenges currently faced by healthcare practitioners.?

The new look branding, website and social channels will aim to drive enhanced engagement with healthcare professionals across Scotland.?

Errol Aerodrome to host new quantum communications project?

A new state-of-the-art optical ground station (OGS) is set to be built at Errol Aerodrome, a former RAF airfield between Dundee and Perth.?

The research facility, developed as part of the Quantum Communications Hub project and funded through the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme, will allow researchers develop pioneering encrypted quantum secure communications systems.?

Digital development firm xDesign has hired Robin Baird as its first Chief Strategy Officer (CSO).?

The appointment comes as the business looks to strengthen its market position and build upon its ambitious long-term growth plans.?

Baird, who will be based in xDesign’s Edinburgh headquarters, will join the company’s executive leadership team, and lead its brand and market strategy.?

Carnival Cruise Lines hit with $5m fine?

One of the world’s biggest cruise line operators, Carnival, was hit with a $5 million fine in the US this week for violating cybersecurity laws.?

Following an investigation by the New York State’s Department of Financial Services (DFS), Carnival was found to have fallen victim to four separate cybersecurity events between 2019 and 2021, including two ransomware attacks.??

However, despite attacks, authorities found that Carnival had not implemented proper cybersecurity procedures in their aftermath.?

British consumers lost £1.3bn to fraud last year?

A new report from UK Finance has highlighted the growing impact of fraud on UK consumers.??

Research shows that, across 2021, more than £1.3bn was stolen through fraud and scams, with unauthorised push payment (APP) fraud accounting for a whopping £583.2 million.??

In response, UK Finance had urged consumers to follow the advice of the Take Five to Stop Fraud campaign, which aims to educate consumers on potential scams.?
