Nine great provocations to keep future-ready thinking front and centre
For the past 18 months I have really enjoyed exploring and deep diving around the notion of organising for the future . This began with an exceptionally future-focused CEO, Julia Davison AM , calling this to my attention as her Chief Learning Officer as we negotiated our way through and then beyond the pandemic. That was followed by a robust exploration of McKinsey's nine traits of future-ready companies with hundreds of leaders at multiple levels with some sterling stewardship and support from Alistair Carmichael and Eleanor Brown at McKinsey.
The learnings around this have been quite paradigm shifting, to say the least.
At a macro level, it invites us to think in terms of three key dimensions: who we are as an organisation, how we operate, and how we grow. Under those banners we can then explore three key traits:

These have been, and continue to be, outstanding provocations for me and the leaders I work with and for. They make a great checklist to refer to at the end of the week, month, quarter or year - and/or as a guide to ongoing exploratory discussion topics with leaders and teams - to really ask ourselves whether we are truly working towards future-ready culture, operations and growth.
