NIMBY VS. YIMBY
Toronto is the most development happening city of North America, there are mega projects still popping up all over the city during and post pandemic.
Please take a look at this Toronto Life of the exiting projects around city core.

I’m personally a pro - Development person and embracing intensification and densification, I believe Toronto is a well-planned city and is on the path to be efficient and eco-friendly in the future. Largely because all my investor clients and myself are big beneficiary with envious return riding along with real estate boom.
There is a reaction for every action, I’m a proud YIMBYism (yes in my backyard) but not everyone is pro - development. There are various reasons for NIMBYism (not in my backyard) of Oppression of development.
NIMBYs may fear for the devaluation of their houses, because the average sale price of a condo is much less than the surrounding houses. There is going to be ongoing construction noises, dust and traffic congestions. It might be as simple as the fears of change and deletion of their existing neighbourhood culture and demographic.
You could have millions of reasons to refuse change, it is purely personal and nostalgia that’s so sad to let go of a local business.
I was in tears when I saw the news about the condo developer Brad-lamb is going to replace one of my favourite local business Master mechanic for a Flatiron condo building. Five days later I got an email from Master Mechanic to further confirm the event and they are equally shocked by the news that they weren’t been informed prior to the news.
I was deeply saddened and frustrated of not only losing another beloved local businesses, but with all the accumulated Covid stress.
This is bad timing for the public announcement, especially when the entire city is trying to save the bloodline of small entrepreneurship.
I’m a YIMBYism (yes in my backyard) celebrates for all the development intensification. But not this time. This is personal and sentimental; you never realize how much your life is attached to the local community until you lose it. I know there nothing to stop the condo evolution, I truly wish High Park Mechanic could find their new home within our community and continue with their custom excellence.
I’m so curious about your NIMBY or YIMBY story about the last development?
