Nikita's story - joining the Tax team at Mazars

Nikita, Global Mobility Assistant Manager, tells us what drew her to Mazars, the challenges she has faced as well as the opportunities she has experienced.

I joined Mazars almost eight months ago. The thing that drew me to the role with Mazars was the fact that it seemed a lot more multidisciplinary than with the firm I previously worked with and provided me with a platform to truly enjoy working with numbers and directly with individuals again. The fact that the interviewers were very friendly, open about the firm and invited me to meet the team before I even joined was a plus as well!??

As I suspected before joining, the new role has been an exciting challenge. I have been exposed to more clients, all with unique business needs and ways of working. There was definitely a learning curve (which I am still getting use to!). I have to admit that the team culture at Mazars is a lot more open than what I was used to. It was also a pleasant surprise to see that team members are encouraged to be mindful of their colleagues' working hours and consider sending emails only during the main office hours.

Having moved to the UK back in 2019, I always felt like I was a minority and not too many people who looked like me were in the sector I was working in or living in. Something that did strike me as being different about Mazars was that they really did seem to have a much more diverse team. I can tell that the firm recruits from a diverse talent pool and the culture it creates seems a lot more diverse as a result.?

Something else I really appreciated was the fact that there were open channels of communication. In the first month of joining I had quite a few members of the team trying to make sure I settled in well and providing me with feedback.??

Additionally, when my partner had a day surgery even though the surgery was in the first couple of months of my joining, the firm were very supportive, allowing me time off and checking in on me which was something I really appreciated.?

There is also a lot more flexibility in the role. Whether you are titled as a Manager, an Assistant Manager or a new graduate, as long as you demonstrate initiative, you are given opportunities. Your rank does not restrict you from certain jobs or opportunities which is brilliant, especially when you start as a new employee as it allows you to experiment and really understand what you might be good at.?
