The Night Kelly Saved Christmas

INT. SANTA WRAPPING SHOP-DAY

Jingle Bells plays. Credits flash across the screen as the elves are busy working on wrapping. Boxes toss from one elf to the other elf as one elf places the gifts into a bag. Music fades KELLY the elf misfit trying to wrap a gift as other gifts zip past her. She somehow gets herself wrapped in the wrapping paper and wraps herself. All the elves in the Wrapping shop laugh. The Head wrapping paper elf LARRY is not impressed.

LARRY

What in jingle bells is going on here?

KELLY

I am so sorry I was helping in the cookie department and well.....they told me to come and help out here.

MINT

Oh Kelly, did you make a mess again in the bakery?

All the elves laugh at Kelly again as Larry Taps his pointy shoes. Kelly unwraps herself.

LARRY

I don’t care what department you go to just get out of my sight.

Kelly runs out of the wrapping shop sobbing.

INT. HALLWAY-DAY

Kelly is sitting in the corner and MRS Claus comes out with a cup of hot chocolate.

MRS CLAUS

I heard what happened again.

KELLY

Who told you this time?

MRS CLAUS

Everyone is talking about it.

KELLY

Great!

Kelly hides her face in her knees as she sobs. Mrs. Claus hands Kelly the hot chocolate.

MRS CLAUS

My dear, why don’t you go and help build some toys, I heard they are short-handed and I am sure they could use some help.

Mrs. Claus helps Kelly off the ground and wipes her tears. She leads her toward the toy shop. Once inside, everyone stops making toys and looks at Kelly.

SPARKY

Mrs. Claus, what do I owe this pleasure?

MRS CLAUS

Kelly has extra time and since you are a little short staff I thought you could use Kelly’s help.

SPARKY

Of course Mrs. Claus we will put her right to work.

Sparky smiles at Mrs. Claus as she walks out of the room. His smile quickly fades.

SPARKY

Don’t touch anything.

Sparky points at her then points at his two eyes as he walks back to his bench. Kelly stands in the middle of the room looking around as everyone else is busy at work. Kelly walks around looking at each table to see the new toys being made as music plays. Kelly starts dancing around when she dances into a pile of boxes ready to go to gift wrapping. All the boxes come crashing down.

ALL THE ELVES IN THE ROOM

Kelly!

SPARKY

Cinnamon and sugar! Out of my sight!

Kelly runs out of the room again.

INT. ELF CHAMBERS-DAY

Kelly is in her room as she is sobbing as she packs up her room. She is packing things as she talks to herself.

KELLY

I can’t do anything right, I am the worst elf ever. I am going to do everyone a favor and get out of here. Maybe I will fit in better in the human world.

FADE OUT.

INT. FRONT OF SCHOOL-DAY

All the students are standing around in front of the school yard waiting for the building to open. Kelly, dressed in street clothes but still has her hat on, comes up to a group of kids.

KELLY

Hi my name is Kelly!

Kelly waves at the teens as she introduces herself while the other teens look at her blankly.

KELLY

I am new here.

BILLY

What? You are new here? That is amazing, have you ever seen her before Karen?

KAREN

No, Billy, I have never seen her before.

BILLY

Gees so do you think she is new? You are so Lame.

KAREN

What’s up with your pointy ears?

Kelly feels her ears.

KELLY

Wait, you are Billy and Karen?

Kelly's smile quickly fades.

BILLY

Wow, you are a fast one.

Kelly walks away from the group. CINDY comes running to Kelly.

CINDY

You will want to stay away from them two. They hate everyone. I am Cindy.

KELLY

I know I always see their name on the list.

CINDY

On the list? So what brings you to this great school?

Cindy says with sarcasm in her voice.

KELLY

I just wanted to try something new.

CINDY

What school did you go to?

Kelly took a moment to think about what to tell.

KELLY

Pole Middle School. Yeah, Pole Middle School that’s it.

CINDY

Never heard of that school.

KELLY

It's not around here. So what kind of activities do they have that I can sign up for?

CINDY

Activities? Oh you mean like sports or clubs?

KELLY

Hmmm...

CINDY

Well Volleyball is going on, and basketball should be starting soon. I am not really into clubs but if you go to the office you can get a list of every club we have.

Kelly starts walking away.

CINDY

Where are you going?

KELLY

I'm going to sign up.

CINDY

Sign up for what?

KELLY

Whatever I can!

CINDY

Wait, you don’t just sign up for a sport, you have to try........

Kelly had already disappeared excited to try a new sport.?

INT.GYM-DAY?

Phsy Ed is taking place when Kelly arrives at the gym. MRS ROCKWELL has a group of five kids for one team and a group of four kids on the other team. Karen and Billy are on the team with only four people.

MRS ROCKWELL

You there, are you new to this class?

Kelly points to herself

KELLY

Yeah

MRS ROCKWELL?

What’s your name??

KELLY

Kelly.

MRS ROCKWELL

Welcome Kelly. Great, you are on the red team.

Kelly gets the ball and starts running toward the net the other team stops chasing her and stands back and watches. Karen keeps yelling at Kelly trying to get her to turn around.

KAREN

You are going the wrong way

Karen shouts out. It was too late Kelly let go of the ball and it made it into the net.

KAREN

Good going loser.

KELLY

But I made a basket.

KAREN

Yeah for the other team, you should be really proud of yourself.

Billy and Karen walk away

BILLY

How did we end up with the newbie on our team?

INT. SANTA WRAPPING SHOP-DAY

All the elves are wrapping gifts and getting ready for the big day. Santa comes in and admires everyone's hard work. Elf DAN wraps a doll, Santa walks over to DAN.

SANTA

Great job Dan, some child is going to be very happy.

Dan smiled bashfully as he placed Dawson's name tag on the package. Santa looks at the tag and looks at Dan’s list in front of him.

SANTA

Wait just a mistletoe, where did you get that list?

DAN

Where I always get my list it was in my mailbox in the elf breakroom this morning.

SANTA

I just spoke to Dawson yesterday. The only thing that child wanted was a truck. I better go and check on Kelly all the years Kelly has been handling my list. She has never made a mistake.

DAN

That's surprising.

SANTA

What was that?

DAN

Oh, nothing Santa.

Larry the head elf looks and sees Santa does not look pleased so he walks over to Santa.

LARRY

Is everything okay Santa?

SANTA

No. Somehow my list is not right. I don't know how many other children may not get what they asked. I need to talk to Kelly right away.

LARRY

Well Santa, Why don’t I talk with her and see what is going on. I know you have other important things to handle this time of year.

SANTA

No, I better talk with her if something must be wrong.

LARRY

Well.....I will come with you.

Larry and Santa walk down the hall together to the list shop, the rest of the elves follow behind. When they open the door SALLY the gift wrap elf is sitting behind the computer where Kelly normally sits. All the elves crowd inside.

SANTA

Holy snowballs, what are you doing here Sally and where is Kelly?

SALLY

I don’t know where Kelly is, Larry told me to cover the naughty and nice list. How hard can it be if Kelly does it?

SANTA

Larry, what in Elf's name is going on here?

LARRY

Kelly took off and I didn’t want Christmas to be ruined so I did what I thought was best for Christmas to replace her.

SANTA

Do we know why she took off?

LARRY

No clue. Every one of us has been so kind to her and then she just abandoned us.

Santa looks at Larry in disbelief.

SANTA

Find Kelly, I don’t care what you have to do I want everyone to look for her.

Santa walks through the crowd of elves and exits the room.

MINT

We will look for her alright.

LARRY

Yep, we just couldn’t find her anywhere.

(Shrugging his shoulders)

HOLLY

Don’t you think we should at least listen to the big guy?

SPARKY

Yeah right, that old man doesn't even have a clue what’s going on. He acts like Kelly is the greatest elf ever. Have you seen her work? I think it’s time for that old man to retire.

LARRY

Yeah that elf destroys everything she touches. We are not gonna waste our time on Kelly, If Santa asks of course we are looking for her.

HOLLY

But we really are not?

MINT

Now you are catching on.

INT.CLASSROOM-DAY

The students are in the classroom talking amongst themselves when Mr. Dale Walks into the room. The classroom goes quiet.

MR DALE

Good morning everyone! As you guys know Christmas is coming fast so starting this week we are going to work on our Christmas show.

KELLY

You have to be snowballing me

MR DALE

I am sorry, is there something you would like to share with the class ummm.... Who are you?

KELLY

I am Kelly. Today is my first day.

MR DALE

I didn’t get notified you were joining us today. Welcome Kelly, do you not celebrate Christmas?

KELLY

Oh no, I celebrate Christmas. I am just trying to run from it this year.

KAREN

She doesn't know what direction to run from anything.

The class busted out laughing. Kelly hides her head down under her arms on her desk.

MR DALE

Okay, that is enough!

EXT.FRONT OF SCHOOL-DAY

LUKE, and Cindy are outside the school. Kelly walks out.

LUKE

Hey Kelly, what are you doing tonight?

KELLY

Nothing why.

CINDY

We are going to go to the food pantry to help tomorrow night. Do you want to come?

KELLY

Sure. I didn’t know you guys did something like that.

Each look at Kelly strangely

LUKE

We just met. How would you know what we do?

Cindy

The only bad thing is Billy and Karen help out too.

LUKE

Yeah, they are always such jerks to us.

KELLY

What? Billy and Karen help?

LUKE

Yeah, it’s the strangest thing ever. I didn’t think the two even had a heart.

FADE OUT.

INT. HALLWAY NORTHPOLE- NIGHT

Santa is walking down the hall and sees Sparky the Elf down the hall. Sparky tries to avoid him but it is too late.

SANTA

Sparky!

SPARKY

Yeah, Santa?

SANTA

Any luck finding Kelly?

SPARKY

No Santa, wherever she went I don’t think she wants to be found for sure.

SANTA

Which elves did you send?

Sparky pauses to think for a moment. Santa looks at Sparky wondering if Sparky is telling the whole truth.

SPARKY

We sent Mint.

SANTA

Okay

Santa turns in the other direction to go toward the wrapping shop.

SPARKY

Santa what is wrong?

SANTA

I just want to see how the wrapping is going and make sure we have no more mess up with the gift tags.

SPARKY

I am sure Larry has it all under control of Santa.

Santa walks quickly down the hall. Sparky jogs to keep up. Sparky pulls on Santa’s jacket trying to stop Santa from going into the wrapping shop. Santa pulls Sparky down the hall as Sparky holds on to Santa’s Jacket. Both walk into the wrapping shop and see all of the elves busy at work wrapping the gifts. He then spots Mint.

SANTA

What in Jingle Bells going on here?!

SPARKY

Santa, I can explain

SANTA

You better or I am going to move you out to the stable to take care of my deer.

SPARKY

Mint has just returned from the hunt of Kelly. Right Mint?

Sparky looks at Mint with desperation in his eyes. Mint Shakes his head yes. Larry looks across the room and sees Santa is not happy. Larry rushes over to help Sparky.

LARRY

Is everything okay Santa?

SANTA

No, I told you two to find Kelly to bring her home and no one is even looking for her.

LARRY

Well.....We haven’t had the chance yet. Christmas is just a few days away and so I have her as the next priority.

Sparky slaps his face, Mint quickly disappears from the area.

SANTA

Wait! So you Betray me Sparky? You did indeed lie to me. You both are no longer supervisors over the toys or wrapping department.

Larry laughs

LARRY

No Santa you can’t really do that, Christmas is just a few days away and you need me. Why am I being punished for something Sparky did?

SANTA

You both disobeyed me. I can’t have that on my team so starting today you both will be working in the stable.

Santa angrily walks out of the wrapping room slamming the door behind him.

LARRY

Do you think he is serious

FADE OUT.

INT. MR DALE’S CLASSROOM- DAY

Mr Dale has his class working on items for the set of the Christmas show. Billy and Karen are working together to make a cardboard Christmas tree. The tree looks nothing like a? Christmas tree.

JAKE

What is that thing supposed to be?

KAREN

Duh! a tree.

JAKE

Go back to preschool and learn how to draw.

BOB

You two are such losers you can’t do anything right.

BILLY

Oh yeah what does yours look like?

Jake holds up the tree he and Bob had been working on.?

JAKE?

See this is what a tree is supposed to look like.

Kelly looked over and she felt sorry for Karen and Billy. She knew how they felt.?

KELLY

Karen and Billy, I think your tree looks very nice.

KAREN

Who asked you? Why don’t you just shut up.

Mr. Dale stands up from his desk and walks over to the group from all the commotion. Kelly looks at her tree. Her tree is just as big of a mess as Karen and Billy’s but no one has paid attention to her project.?

MR. DALE

Karen, we do not tell our friends to shut up.?

KAREN?

Oh yeah well they started it.

MR. DALE

Young lady, to? Mrs. Page office? Now!

KAREN

Whatever this class is lame anyways.

INT. FOOD PANTRY-DAY

Boxes of food pile up behind Luke, Kelly, and Cindy as each places cans of food in the box as people stand in line to grab the boxes. Kelly Looks down the line Karen and Billy working together in another line of people. Kelly smiled and looked surprised that Karen and Billy actually looked happy as they talked and laughed with the people getting the food.

KAREN

Here is your food for the week Mr. Wheeler see you next week!

BILLY

Ah Mrs. Southwell!? I threw a little something extra special in there for you this week.

MRS. SOUTHWELL

Thank you, Billy you such a thoughtful young man, see you next week.

PANTRY WORKER

You both are fantastic workers when you are down here. Thank you so much for all of your help.

Kelly and Billy don’t say anything, they smile and keep working.

KELLY

What is up with them two?

LUKE

Oh, you mean Karen and Billy?

KELLY

They are actually being nice to everyone.

LUKE

Yeah every time they come down here they always seem happy and friendly but when they are at school completely different people. Maybe they are like Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

KELLY

I never knew they helped out.

LUKE

You know you are indeed one strange girl, but you are sick.

KELLY

No, I feel fine.

LUKE

You are really not from around here, are you?

Kelly gives Karen and Billy a compassionate look.

INT. LIBRARY-DAY

Karen and Billy sit at a table in the corner of the library. Kelly walks over to them.

KELLY

Hi guys

KAREN

What do you want reject?

KELLY

You guys helped with the pantry yesterday.

BILLY

Yeah! So?

KELLY

You seem to really enjoy it.

BILLY

Yeah.

KAREN

So....Do You need something or did you just come to get on our nerves?

KELLY

I just always had you labeled as bad. Never good, my list never showed the good deeds you two do at the pantry.?

?????BILLY

Wow, I thought we were the weird ones at this school but you just brought a whole new level of weirdness.

INT.MR.DALE CLASSROOM-DAY

All the students have papers in their hands for the practice for the upcoming show. Jake is dressed as Santa he has the lead part. Karen, Billy and Kelly are Reindeer. Jake has the reins for the slide. That looks to be attached to Billy, Karen and Kelly.? Jake slaps down hard on them hitting Billy.

BILLY

Ouch idiot!

JAKE

Oops I didn’t mean to hit you.

BILLY

You know dang well you did.

MR. DALE

Okay that is enough Billy please apologize to Jake.

BILLY

You want me to apologize? But he is the one that? hit me..

MR. DALE

I didn’t see that but I did hear you calling Jake an idiot. So apologize.

BILLY

No I am not going to until he apologizes first.

MR. DALE

Okay young man you can walk yourself down to Mrs. Page’s office.

KELLY

Wait, Billy is telling the truth!

MR. DALE?

It’s nice trying to protect Billy and all but everyone here knows that Billy and Karen are nothing but trouble.

KAREN

I didn’t do anything this time.

MR. DALE

Well I didn’t mean this time but normally if there is trouble you two are in the center of it. Billy now get to the office.

BILLY

Geez you people should just put a couple desks in Mrs Page’s office with our names on them.

MR. DALE

Mr. Dale opens his door and points out.

INT. CLOSET-NIGHT

It is the night of the show Kelly is seen in her closet at the school where she has been hiding out over the past few days. In the closet she has a blanket on the floor and a pillow. She is in her costume dressed like a reindeer. She sits in the chair that is in the janitor closet and spins around and around.

INT. STAGE-NIGHT

The class is lined up on the stage ready to sing the last song of the night. The decorations that were made in class are seen on each side of them.?

CLASS?

(Singing)

Jingle bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way,

As the class sings Bob slightly pushes Billy. He bumps into one of his classmates and this starts a domino effect. Everyone falls down except for Billy and Karen.?

JAKE

Nice going Moron!

MRS PAGE

Billy and Karen in my office now!

Parents in the audience are not sure whether to clap or not.

INT. MRS. PAGE’S OFFICE-NIGHT

Billy and Karen are sitting in Mrs Page's office. Mrs. Page is pacing back and forrth

MRS. PAGE

I don’t know what I am going to do with the two of you. The only thing you two do is cause trouble.

BILLY

But Mrs. Page,? I didn't do it this time.

MRS. PAGE

Oh you didn’t do it this time okay, I would love to know who did because the only two that were still standing up there were you two.

KAREN

It doesn't matter what we say. You're gonna think the way you want to think anyways.

MRS. PAGE

No, what can I do to get you two to walk the straight and narrow line here? Like Jake and Bob.

KAREN

Wait! What? Like them two Clowns? You have got to be kidding me. First you could just listen to us.

BILLY?

Yeah we are telling you the truth.?

MRS. PAGE?

You two need to stop blaming other people for things you are responsible for, it’s late and we all just want to go home tonight, plan on an after school detention tomorrow.

BILLY?

This is so unfair! What about Jake and Bob?

KAREN

Save it Billy, those two can not do anything wrong.

MRS. PAGE

Tomorrow after school.

EXT.FRONT OF SCHOOL-DAY

Santa and Mrs. Claus walks around the school peeking into the school windows. They are dressed in street clothes to fit in with the humans. They look really creepy as they peek into the windows. Karen and Billy pass by as Mrs Claus and Santa peeks in.

BILLY?

Creepy!.

KAREN

For real!

BILLY

Do you think we should tell someone

KAREN

Na not our problem. This school doesn't care about us so why would we care about anyone here?

Karen and Billy keep walking out of sight. Santa and Mrs Claus come to the school front door Luke opens the door and walks outside.

SANTA

Young man, do you know this girl?

Santa shows a picture of Kelly.

LUKE

Yeah, she’s the new girl. Are you two her grandparents?

Mrs. Claus and Santa look at each other and laugh.

MRS CLAUS

Something like that Child.

LUKE

She is around here somewhere.

SANTA

Can you please let her know we are here and looking for her?

LUKE

Sure.

Cindy walks over to Luke.

CINDY

Wow, you look just like Santa. I am sorry that is so rude of me.

SANTA

No worries, I get it all the time.

Santa smiles and winks at her.

LUKE

Have you seen Kelly?

CINDY

Yeah, she is inside.

LUKE

Great! We will send her right out.

Cindy and Luke run back into the school.

INT. HALL-DAY

Kelly stood around in the school hall waiting for everyone in the school to leave. She has made her home in the school for the past few days. Cindy and Luke rush in.

LUKE

Kelly!

KELLY

Yeah!

CINDY

Your grandparents are outside looking for you.

KELLY

My grandparents?

LUKE

Yeah, they are outside. Your grandparents are kind of like Mr. and Mrs. Santa.

KELLY

They are actually here.

Kelly's face lights up with a? huge smile

CINDY

Yeah were you not planning on them picking you up?

KELLY

Oh,? I just forgot. Thank you guys for letting me know.

Kelly runs down the hall and to the lobby.

INT. SCHOOL LOBBY-DAY

Kelly Runs to the lobby of the school Santa and Mrs. Clause are standing by the doors.

SANTA

Kelly!

Kelly runs up to Santa and Mrs. Claus and gives them hugs.

KELLY

What on the north pole are you doing here? It’s almost Christmas.

SANTA

To find you.

KELLY

To find me?

MRS CLAUS

Yes, dear. Why did you run away?

Kelly looks at the ground kicking her foot.

KELLY

Because I destroy everything I touch and I didn’t want to ruin Christmas. But even when I got here I still didn't fit in and created chaos

MRS CLAUS

You don’t destroy everything you touch, you just have strong areas and not-so-strong areas. Everyone has that.

Mrs. Claus pulls Kelly into her arms.

SANTA

Kelly, I had to come and find you, no one can keep track of my list like you do. I almost gave Dawson Carson a Doll for Christmas instead of his normal truck.

KELLY

Really? That is bad. Dawson has been asking for trucks since he could talk.

SANTA

You see Kelly just because you might not be good at some things doesn't mean you don’t excel in others. You don’t do well with toys, you can’t wrap....

KELLY

But elves are supposed to be able to do it all.

MRS CLAUS

No one can do it all. You excel at the list. That is the only reason you even have time to help the other departments out. The list is no easy task.

KELLY

The other elves always say I have extra time because my job is so easy.

SANTA

Oh, I don’t think they will say that anymore.

KELLY

Why is that?

SANTA

With you being gone each elf has seen how much you do that they take for granted. Now let's go home and get this year's Christmas started!

KELLY

One other thing. Karen and Billy always show up on my naughty list year after year. Why is that when they help at the pantry every week?

SANTA

The naughty and nice list was created to give gifts to children that were nice most of the time out of the year.

KELLY

So their good deeds every week don’t count toward them being good?

Santa thinks about the question for a moment.

SANTA

You are in charge of the list, the rules have been in force over the past two hundred years but you are the one who in the end makes the choice. Who’s naughty or nice. That is your job.

FADE OUT.

INT. SANTA WORKSHOP-DAY

Elves working hard to get ready for Christmas Eve. The door opens and Santa, Mrs. Clause, and Kelly walk in. The shop goes quiet. Holly Comes up to Kelly and gives her a hug, everyone else comes rushing up to Kelly to hear about her adventure.

HOLLY

We are so glad to have you back girl.

SANTA

We need new head elves for our wrapping shop and toy shop. Sally I would like to make you the head of the wrapping department. Would you be so kind as to accept my request?

Sally gets a big smile on her face. Shaking her head yes.

SALLY

Yes, Santa I will!

SANTA

Now for the head elf of toys Holly!

Holly Points to herself and mouths me.

SANTA

Holly, would you take on the head elf of toys?

HOLLY

You bet! I mean yes Santa

ALL ELVES

Yeah!

INT.KAREN HOUSE-DAY

Karen walks over to her Christmas tree when she notices a present under the tree. The gift tag says to Karen from Santa. Karen Picks up the gift and holds it close.

INT. BILLY HOUSE-DAY

Billy walks into his living room and finds a gift just like Karen. He looks at the tag multiple times looking around thinking it is a prank by someone in the house. Billy's Phone rings.

BILLY

Hey

KAREN

Did you get something from Santa?

BILLY

Yeah, did you?

KAREN

Yeah, creepy.

EXT. FRONT OF THE SCHOOL-DAY

Cindy trips over the step leading into the school, she falls on the ground and everything she was carrying flies everywhere. Jake and Bob walks by kicking her book farther away, they as they keep walking. Karen and Billy rush to her side. Mrs.Page watches from a far. Luke alway watching from afar he rushes over to Cindy thinking Billy and Karen are picking on Cindy. Billy and Karen helps Cindy to her feet and helps her pick up everything that was dropped.

LUKE

Cindy, are you okay?

CINDY

Yeah I am fine.

LUKE

You guys better leave her alone.

Karen and Billy start walking away.

CINDY

No Luke, they didn’t make me fall. I tripped and they were helping me.

LUKE

Huh?

CINDY

Hey Karen and Billy, do you want to sit with us during lunch?

BILLY

So lame

Billy and Karen walked away smiling.

INT.CAFETERIA-DAY

Luke and Cindy sitting at the lunch table Billy and Karen Comes over with lunch trays and sit down with Luke,Stacy,and Cindy. Everyone is talking and laughing. Jake walks by throwing water onto Billy Mrs. Page see this from across the room.

JAKE?

What’s up, you losers?

CINDY

Why don’t you just go on.

MRS. PAGE

What are you kids up to?

KAREN

Great Mrs. Page what did we do now??

MRS. PAGE

Oh nothing, I would like to see Jake in my office so I can talk to you about throwing water at your classmates.

JAKE

Huh?

MRS. PAGE

Jake in my office now.

Mrs. Page points to the door

EXT.FIELD-DAY

Sparky and Larry are in the deer field scooping hay for the deer.

LARRY

My gosh this stinks

SPARKY

For real we should be inside nice and warm doing what we were called to do.

LARRY

True but no I seriously mean this crap stinks.

Larry continued moving the hay. Mrs. Claus comes and brings the two hot chocolates.

MRS. CLAUS

Here you two go, to warm you up. You two are doing such a nice job with the stalls.
