A Night of AI Exploration: IXDA Brisbane's Year-End Meetup

IXDA Brisbane, the design meetup that has been bringing creative minds together for two years, celebrated its final event of the year with a focus on artificial intelligence. Sponsored by Skedulo and Just Digital People, the meetup took place last night and drew the largest crowd in its history.

The evening was a great success, starting with the presentation by Carl Gribble , the founder and director of Dorothiai. In his witty and engaging manner, Carl conducted a quick masterclass on ChatGPT, demonstrating how it can be prompted and given context to analyse data, perform competitor research, and synthesize information. The audience was completely engrossed, with mixed feelings about the potential implications of this technology for the future of design.

Then came the panel discussion, where Carl teamed up with Timothy Falchi , Morgen Carson , and Kim M. to tackle some burning questions. Such as can AI be truly creative, and what even defines creativity in the world of AI? What will the digital and AI divide look like in the coming years, and how will AI impact recruitment and candidate evaluation? These thought-provoking questions sparked diverse views and reminded us that the answers are still uncertain in the ever-evolving AI landscape.

One thing we could all agree on was that AI has some real potential to benefit us, but we're still on a wild ride trying to figure out exactly what that will look like and what guard rails need to be put in place.

After the event, the conversations continued at The Prince Consort, thanks to the awesome folks at Just Digital People. We talked about everything we'd learned about AI and how we could keep the IXDA Brisbane community evolving. The big idea that got everyone buzzing was a hackathon for social impact – and we're all eager to jump in and make it happen.
