Nigerian Tech Startups, Our Pick - First Five

Starting a tech company in Nigeria is no easy feat. Regardless of the sector it is based, there are several laws, concerns and risks with running a successful technologic venture.

Despite the economic and resource constraints, some Nigerians have defied the odds to lead innovation in tech.

There is a tech startup for every dawn in Nigeria. We are choosing to focus on companies with potential or recorded profitability. In todays letter, we will highlight our best ten picks.


1. FLUTTERWAVE

Founded in 2016 by Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Olugbenga Agboola, and Adeleke Adekoya, flutter wave is a payment platform for merchants and global enterprises. Recognised as one of the most valuable startups in Nigeria, Flutterwave became Africa’s fourth unicorn last year after raising $170m in a Series C round



2. MOOVE AFRICA

Founded by Ladi Delano. Moove Africa is an Integrated Mobility platform. It is structured to enable all transport services and service providers to work together.


3. RELIANCE HEALTH

Reliance Health, Founded by Femi Kuti, Opeyemi Olumekun and Matthew Mayaki in 2016. Reliance Health utilises tech to make healthcare accessible and affordable. It uses an integrated approach that includes: affordable health insurance, telemedicine and a combination of partner healthcare facilities. The goal is to meet the needs of emerging markets with innovative technologies.


4. BAMBOO

Bamboo, founded by Richmond Bassey, is one of Nigeria leading online brokerage firms. It allows Africans to buy and trade US stocks in real time. It has expanded into other countries, making it a transnational brokerage app.



5. TRIBAPAY

Founded by Bolu Oluwagbesan. Tribapay is a digital wallet that lets you send and receive money, store money in a pin, sell your airtime and get cash, pay with your Dollar Card and pay for other utilities.
