Nigeria For Sale

I do not expect to have many friends after the publication of this article. Some will express their views while others will not. Anybody with a personal perspective or disposition is free to express it and that does not make you an extremist. Many people who support my opinion will be too afraid to show their support by way of clicking the like button or making a comment so, they will give room to the more vocal aggressors who may throw banters at any opposition. We saw this play out in the last US elections. The courageous and vocal populace ranted and lost while the silent conformist won. I am just concerned about this country and wonder how and when we can overcome our challenges that the developed world has provided solutions several decades ago.

In this article, I assert that governance without capitalism and entrepreneurial mentality will not take us to the promise land as a country. As an entrepreneur, I propose a sector in Nigeria where thinks are working irrespective of the myriad of challenges in the larger society with a view to replicating such.

Electricity runs for 24 hours. It does not blink. Some businesses are located in this community in order to benefit from energy availability. However due to their relative small size, cost of generating, distribution and maintenance is high.

The sectoral man made community is sane, serene and properly managed in line with global best practice. Sanitation and Security are at their best.

The population of this sector belong to the largest among its peers in the world. Their organizational skill and structure is excellent. By virtue of their nature, they meet regularly in large numbers yet there is no record of poor crowd control. They must be doing something right.

In terms of leadership, they stand tall. They are seasoned and experienced with years of plying a particular trade. Most of them grew their spheres from the scratch which is synonymous with Start-ups. They are deliberate in their actions and conscious of their decisions. Some of these leaders are IT savvy with report that a particular one has over 30million followers in a privately created network outside Facebook and Twitter. They are authorities in what they do gaining tremendous international recognition and local influence.

At single meetings, some have capacity to house up to 12million people, while others are about 2.5m and below. They have built self-sustaining cities where other major sectors compete for space including the financial sector players.

Though they frequently face criticisms for no fault of theirs, especially with respect to regulation and membership recruitment and lifestyle, it is worthy of mention that identifying with the sector is voluntary and based on personal conviction.

I look at the rot in the Nigerian system and then I wonder why we have not approached the subject sector leadership to replicate the success in their communities in the larger Nigeria. If they can survive, inspite of this country's inherent challenges, we may as well hand over Nigeria to one of them.

It will be nice to hear from you, but I think it is time to handover Nigeria to a successful Pastor in this country. If you dare doubt my proposition, take a trip to any of the community during a special event. What you see is reminiscent of world class act. What are they doing right that our politicians have failed to replicate?
