Nigeria and it's Creative Economy

It's almost been 2 years since I decided to be entrepreneurial against all judgements. I was warned of me loosing the comfortable cheques, and worst of all, the very low chance of success attributed to starting a small business in Nigeria.

It's been almost 2 years and I can comfortable say, with God's grace and perseverance I have been able to create and sustain a business and employ people without a complaint of not being able to pay salaries. But with the current economic situation that has plagued the country in general, uncertainties and fear in beginning to creep into the work place and creatives are not one to be calm in uncomfortable scenarios.

Everyday we look for inventive ways to keep the team engaged, motivated and most of all creative. But how does one demand creativity from people that constantly engage in political and economic dilemmas; telling you "they cannot get to the office, or work from home" cause of fuel scarcity or the lack of power? Investment in the creative economy, should not start by rolling out 100s of millions of dollars in grants; it is creating the right environment to thrive in.

It's becoming increasingly hard to sustain a "Thinking/Creating Economy" when distractions face us everyday from, political instability to terrorism and now economic downturn. With very little capital and capacity, we are still directly or indirectly one of the largest employers of labour and it's important to make sure we stay in business to create more opportunities for other sectors; cause that's what we do.

I'm still very optimistic of the future of this great country, I only hope our sacrifices pays off in the end.
