THIS IS NIGERIA .

Falz (@falzthebahdguy), the Nigerian Music superstar with the viral “This is Nigeria”, a song inspired by American Music Star, Childish Gambino's “This is America”. The viral song has evoked mixed reactions from Nigerians, while some interpret the video to portray Nigeria in a bad image, others see it to tell the true Nigeria story.

However, the video reminds me of cross-cultural communication in business negotiations. Cultural behaviors are taking into consideration when negotiating, how your counterpart’s culture might affect what he says and does at the bargaining table. By understanding cultural differences you can promote smoother, less contentious negotiations as people tend to follow their culture's norm in the face of business.

TIPS ON HOW TO DEAL WITH FOREIGNERS IN BUSINESS: -

To the Chinese, an apology restores dignity and trust between parties

- The Lebanese value family business, they consider the practice to be necessary in securing trustworthy, loyal, and long-term employees.

- The Indian's focus more on building relationships early.

So when you are preparing for business negotiations, have these handy:

1. Do your homework about your business partner's culture.

2. Show respect for cultural differences.

3. Be aware of how others may perceive your culture.

4. Find ways to bridge the culture gap.

What's your opinion on the viral song, 'This is Nigeria' by Falz @falzthebahdguy? How do you think he portrayed Nigeria, good or bad?
