Nifty Nugget: Masterminding with ChatGPT – Your Personal Council of Giants

Greetings, tech aficionados, and lifelong learners! For this week's Nifty Nugget, we're diving into something truly unique. Who wouldn't want to sit down with some of history's most brilliant minds for advice, debate, and maybe even a little argument? Thanks to ChatGPT, you can create your very own virtual 'Mastermind Group'!

ChatGPT Meets Napoleon Hill

Many of you have likely read Napoleon Hill's classic, "Think and Grow Rich," where Hill introduces the idea of a "Mastermind Alliance." Simply put, this alliance is a harmonious group of individuals working collectively toward a common purpose, creating a "third mind" from their shared intelligence. But what if your alliance could include historical figures like John Rockefeller, Steve Jobs, or Oprah Winfrey? Welcome to the age of ChatGPT's Mastermind.

Beyond Earthly Limits

Hill went one step further than a Mastermind Alliance with his "Invisible Counselors" theory. This involves conjuring a virtual mastermind group in deep meditation with influential figures who've passed away. Sure, the concept might have felt far-fetched in Hill's time (and to me when I first read about it), but with ChatGPT, the impossible becomes possible. Full credit for opening my eyes to this possibility goes to Courtlin Holt-Nguyen, whose article I have generously borrowed from here.

Crafting the Ultimate Advisory Board

Imagine a mastermind group that includes:

  • John Rockefeller
  • Andrew Carnegie
  • Thomas Edison
  • Henry Ford
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • Sam Walton
  • Steve Jobs
  • Jeff Bezos

Using ChatGPT, you can prompt debates, seek advice, or even stir up a little controversy among your esteemed panel. As mentioned, credit for the original prompt goes to Holt-Nguyen's article; you can explore my version of the prompt here.

Mastermind Starter Pack

Curious about what to ask your celestial boardroom? Here are some questions to get you started:

  • "Please introduce yourselves. EVERYONE"
  • "I'm planning to launch a service helping the elderly experience unique vacations. Thoughts?"
  • "Path to wealth: high-risk, high-reward or slow and steady? DEBATE"
  • "Thinking of starting a business with my spouse. Wise or foolish? DEVIL'S ADVOCATE, DEBATE"

Your Own Panel of Experts

You can customize your group based on your interests and needs - just copy my prompt and make the necessary edits. So, why not venture into the limitless possibilities ChatGPT brings to your problem-solving arsenal? Enjoy tapping into some out-of-this-world wisdom!

Thanks Nikos, good article, I’m glad the idea worked for you. I found that the quality of the prompts made all the difference. For example, asking for specific guidance on applying Amazon’s Day One policy to a specific problem yielded better results than asking the mastermind for general advice. Asking the mastermind to work through a problem step-by-step also helped.?

Interesting but I have to say that after trying it for a bit I find it extreme meh. It just gives answers on the style of each. Eg: Oprah is always inspiring, Bezos always says to focus on principles and long term etc. It very quickly becomes vanilla and full of platitudes. Not surprised, this thing can’t really “think” and any worthy group of advisors either gives you personal experiences or actual thought through advice…
