Nicky Goes Fishing

Nicky Goes Fishing

Nicky woke, to hear the birds sing

The sun shining brightly,

Making him shiver, within.

For the beauty of the forest,

Was such a lovely sight.

He took a deep breath,

Filling is lungs with all his might.

A robin swooped down,

Right next to his tent.

His parents still asleep

His brother still spent.

They roasted marshmallows and made quite a mess

They sang songs and laughed, until it was time to rest.

Now the morning called the animals to start their day.

The chipmunks, and the squirrels, happily at play.

“It’s time to go fishing!” Nicky called out to his Dad.

“I want to catch our dinner and make Mommy glad.”

“Who’s going to clean the fish?” his father stretched with a laugh,

“You silly, all I do is catch.”

Down to the stream,

Nicky walked with his Dad.

His fishing pole in one hand,

His other, in his Dad’s.

They set up a blanket, and sat right down.

Nicky pulled out a worm and attached it to the hook

He could see the fish biting by the bubbles in the brook.

A small gentle tug, Nicky felt on his line,

“What do I do?” Nicky needed to know.

“I can’t lose the fish, but he’s too strong to hold.”

“Pull the line gently and slowly turn the dial.

Don’t want to scare the fish, you’re doing just fine.”

So Nicky did exactly as he was told,

but the fish still got loose in spite of his hold.

Nicky tried another worm,

he tried with all his might

But the silly worm,

put up a good fight.

Nicky decided, after a few tries,

He didn’t want fish, he rather have fries.

“Let’s go swimming Nicky cried, standing up.

I don’t want fish anyway, they’re just too much work.

Let’s go swimming!” Nicky cried once again.

“I’ll race you back. Then we can all get wet!”

“Slow down, Nicky!” Dad called from behind.

The day had just started, they had plenty of time.

The End
