Nickelytics and Smokey Bear: Pioneering PSA Innovation

Nickelytics , in partnership with Ad Council and Serve Robotics , has spearheaded a groundbreaking approach to public service announcements through the Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention Campaign. Recognizing that humans are the culprits behind nearly 90% of wildfires, the campaign targets the pressing need for public awareness and action.

The Constant Battle Against Wildfires

Wildfires are a relentless threat across the United States, endangering our natural and residential areas alike. The Smokey Bear campaign, supported by the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, aimed to foster a culture of responsibility and proactive fire prevention.

Innovative Strategy

Our campaign reimagined Smokey Bear for the modern age, deploying autonomous delivery robots as moving billboards across Los Angeles. These robots, carrying the iconic message of Smokey Bear, navigated through high-traffic neighborhoods like Hollywood, Westwood, and Koreatown, turning routine deliveries into powerful educational encounters. The use of real-time GPS data enhanced the campaign's effectiveness, allowing for precise measurement of its reach and impact.

Achieving Remarkable Reach

From October to November 2022, the initiative reached an audience of nearly 1.6 million and spanned over 1000 miles. Beyond its immediate reach, the campaign sparked conversations nationwide, earning media coverage and support from notable figures and organizations, marking a first in Ad Council’s history of utilizing such an innovative advertising medium.

Partnership and Progress

This collaboration showcased the fusion of creativity and technology, from the unique design of the robots to the advanced tracking and analytics used. This project set new benchmarks for how public service campaigns can engage and educate the public.
