2023 Construction Statistics Review

As we enter 2024, the construction sector is poised for a positive trajectory. The commencement of a new year provides an opportune moment to revisit the achievements and obstacles encountered in the preceding year. Here is a summary of key statistics from 2023:

  • In October, the construction output value dipped to £15,485 million, primarily attributed to weather-related delays. Nonetheless, this marked a 1% upturn compared to the previous year.
  • The most significant surge in workforce occurred in the West Midlands, witnessing a notable 29% increase in employees. The South East experienced a 10% rise, boasting a total of 350,000 workers.
  • Over the past 12 months, the construction industry has witnessed a growth in its workforce, reaching 2.25 million, a noteworthy increase of 360,000 compared to 2022, constituting a 1.6% increase.
