Renewable energy needs energy storage, due to the mismatch between times of supply and demand, in order to maintain frequency on the electricity grid.
Energy is not just power, hydrogen is the energy vector in all fossil fuel.
Storage is not a single technology solution. Batteries are only great for storing small amounts of energy for short periods of time.
An electrolyser splits water H2O into hydrogen and oxygen and so acts as a converter of energy vector from electrons to protons (hydrogen), rather than an energy store, therefore capacity is unbounded, for multiple application.
Unscheduled nature of large scale renewable energy supply over extended time requires technologies that:
- don't need to discharge before recharge
- are not geographically constrained
- provide vector conversion, enabling full utilisation of energy whenever generated
- are Power IN, Energy OUT, and not dependent on the market for electricity
- extend the cross-sector benefit of renewable energy to decarbonise chemicals, steel, refineries, and transport, as well as provide inter-seasonal storage and heat
- promote the economic case for renewable energy supply through extended markets

7 年Le power to hydrogène est bien plus intéressant que le power to methane, la durée peut être plusieurs mois et près de 1TWh stocké en cavité souterraine !
