Niche is the new mainstream

A little while ago, I said that the greatest opportunity for ad agencies is to have a point of view about the world outside of marketing. I run an agency, so you might ask what's yours? That's fair. Here it is:

As a media agency we believe that

Mainstream culture is shattered into infinite pieces...countless subcultures.

That is because no two people experience media the same way anymore.

For brands to be relevant, succeed, and grow marketers need to find their communities. Marketers need to stop relying on wasteful demographic targeting and the promise of hyper personalization an instead find their niche. Understand where you are more relevant and most welcome and only play there. But how?
