A Nice Thing to Know!
Top of the weekend my friends! The past two weeks have been really heavy so I hope you don't mind but today I want to have some fun!
Lets play a word game! Ok ready?
When you read the word "nice" what is the first thought that comes to your mind? Now hold that "nice" thought for a few more moments.
The word "nice" began as a negative term in Latin which meant "ignorant"! Nice huh!?!
It gets better, it was this sense of ignorance that was transferred to English and for almost a century it referred to a stupid or foolish person. Something "nice" to know!
By the 1400's the term began to be used for clothing. As someone who was finely dressed or attired. For some reason somewhere in the 1800's "nice" evolved into a term of endearment.
To give it a more modern day spin just like the word "bad" which back in the late 70's and early 80's became good while good is still good. I think? Anyway somehow bad became a better good than good you still with me?
Moral of this word play is that's why we don't understand each other. Since we don't recognize the difference between good and bad anymore.
Have a nice weekend and you owe me a doughnut for this one. :)
