A Nice Bike, A Warm Blanket & A Library Card

A Nice Bike, A Warm Blanket & A Library Card

It's the holidays: time for Black Friday sales, reduced prices, and finding that perfect gift for the one you love...and the kids...and Uncle Bob.

What do you get them? And what makes the "perfect gift"?

I've always tried to stop myself when I find I'm slipping into that "materialistic place,"; the one that tells you you have to get the "right gift" so you don't seem cheap or fall into that place where your relationship is determined by how much money you spend or what you buy.

The majority of my career has been in healthcare. I've worked enough Christmases and Thanksgivings to know that life isn't about "stuff" - it's about people and relationships and letting those closest to you know how much they mean to you and telling them they are loved.

Because when you work in?#healthcare, the most poignant lesson you will ever learn is that life can (and often does) change in an instant.

Still - sometimes it's good to remember that thing - the "must-have" gift because you know the value it has brought you. - So much so that you want everyone you know to have the same thing because of the joy it has brought you.

Along these lines, I've always felt that the three most important things to have are a?nice bike,?a warm blanket, and a library card to find a?good book. My default gifts have always been?books?(and yes, sometimes the warm blanket to go with it). - This stems from my childhood and those summer days when I'd be hanging out at home trying to figure out what to do, and my mom would say, "why don't you take your?bike?and go to the library?" The blanket showed up when summer turned to Fall, and I still wanted to read outside. During the winter, the?blanket?stayed with me as I lay on the sofa quietly reading while the fire in the large fireplace in our family room grew warmer.?

Even during the roaring fire's optimal warmth, I kept the blanket around me because of how cozy it was.?

So here are my questions for you:

What brings you joy?

What's your optimal "go-to" gift you want to tell us about?

Because you know that some of us are still looking for ideas, right?

I also love a good book and a “blankie”, Susan A. Leys . I also love gifting and receiving experiences like a taking a cooking class with family and friends, a girls day trip with my daughters and granddaughter, and a nite out on the town with my ??. One of my favorite gifts last year was a flower subscription from a local flower farm.
